County of Gaston Animal Care Aide in Gastonia, North Carolina

The duties listed below are not all of the duties that may be assigned but are those that are considered as essential for an employee to perform.

  • Responsible for care, kennel, and cage cleaning, feeding, socializing, exercise, restraining animals, and administering medication as indicated by medical staff.
  • Intake of stray and owner surrendered animals in a humane and professional manner.
  • Performs euthanasia once receiving CET certificate.
  • Assist with daily documentation of animal behavior and health by updating all paper and computer records.
  • Assist with daily laundry; washing, drying, folding and putting away in proper storage all clean laundry.
  • Empty trash, keeping trash receptacles clean and free of excrement and food. Wipe down and sanitize all surfaces, keep counters and floors clean, and wash dishes.
  • Maintain inventory of food supplies; litter, newspapers, daily health sheets, adoption kits, promotional and educational literature; laundry detergent, cleaning and disinfecting solutions; papers towels; and other items used in the daily care of animals.
  • Provide excellent customer service, which may include, but is not limited to answering phones, greeting the community, answering basic questions about animals, receiving walk-in donations from the community in a gracious manner, and helping adoptions show animals.
  • Maintain professional and appropriate conduct and attire at all times.
  • Other duties as assigned by Director

Minimum Qualifications: Completion of High School or GED equivalencyandsome experience in the care and handling of animals required.

A valid drivers license, without restrictions, is required.

Minimally qualified applicants will start at 25% of the salary range: $16.24/hr.

The candidate selected must undergo and pass a drug screening test prior to employment
