Pump Mechanic

Job Description

As a pump mechanic, you will be responsible for replacing defective parts of machines and equipment, adjusting clearances and alignment of moving parts, and performing repairs on various types of equipment, including pumps, motors, gearboxes, turbines, compressors, and rotary equipment. You will also be required to assemble and install equipment, disassemble and clean machinery, and complete inspection reports with recommended repairs. Your duties will involve using a variety of tools and equipment, including hoists, jacks, hand tools, and power tools.

Responsibilities

  • Replace defective parts of machines and equipment or adjust clearances and alignment of moving parts.

  • Align machines and equipment using hoists, jacks, hand tools, squares, rules, micrometers, and plumb bobs.

  • Connect power units to machines or steam piping to equipment, and test units to evaluate mechanical operations.

  • Repair and lubricate machines and equipment.

  • Perform repairs on equipment such as pumps, motors, gearboxes, turbines, compressors, and rotary equipment.

  • Assemble and install equipment using hand tools and power tools.

  • Disassemble, clean, inspect, and complete inspection reports including recommended repairs of machinery and equipment.

  • Position steel beams to support bedplates of machines and equipment using blueprints and schematic drawings.

  • Signal crane operator to lower basic assembly units to bedplate and align unit to centerline.

  • Insert shims, adjust tension on nuts and bolts, or position parts using hand tools and measuring instruments.

  • Move machinery and equipment using hoists, dollies, rollers, and trucks.

  • Attach moving parts and subassemblies to basic assembly units using hand tools and power tools.

  • Assemble machines and fasten them to foundations or other structures using hand tools and power tools.

  • Lay out mounting holes using measuring instruments and drill holes with power drills.

  • Bolt parts to basic assembly units.

  • Level bedplates and establish centerlines using straightedges, levels, and transits.

  • Dismantle machines using hammers, wrenches, crowbars, and other hand tools.

  • Shrink-fit bushings, sleeves, rings, liners, gears, and wheels to specified items using portable gas heating equipment.

  • Dismantle machinery and equipment for shipment to installation sites and perform installation and maintenance work as part of a team.

  • Construct foundations for machines using hand tools and building materials such as wood, cement, and steel.

Essential Skills

  • Experience in pump mechanics (repairs, disassembly, inspections).

  • Ability to travel, typically overnight once or twice a month.

  • Proficiency in troubleshooting, hydraulics, pump repair, and industrial rotating equipment.

  • Skills in disassembly and assembly, precision measurement/inspection, and mechanical tasks.

  • Experience with pump assembly, rotating equipment, compressors, gearboxes, and turbine systems.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Vibration analysis experience.

  • Must have own tools (micrometers, indicators, edge finders, etc.).

Work Environment

You will be working on the 1st shift (7 AM - 3:30 PM), Monday to Friday. There is flexibility to start early at 5 AM or stay late until 5:30 PM. The company also offers Saturday shifts for 1st shift only. The environment is clean and is a job shop where temperature can vary due to weather conditions. Travel work at customer sites is required.
