JOB SUMMARY:

This is an hourly, nine-month position: 20 hours per week; 39 weeks per year (in-person and limited remote hours) from September 1st to May 31st. The successful candidate will be responsible for mental health and academic assistance to students in the Adelphi Plus Learning Community, as well as collaborating with faculty in the program.

Title Position Reports To: Director of Student Counseling Center with additional supervision and duties provided by the Director of the Adelphi Plus Learning Community.

SALARY INFORMATION:

In compliance with New York’s Pay Transparency Act, the salary for this position is $45.00 - $48.00 per hour. Adelphi University considers factors such as departmental budgets, scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate’s work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. An annual base salary higher than the range may be warranted in circumstances where a candidate has demonstrable equivalent prior higher education experience at another University.

RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:

  1. Provide in-person and telehealth time-limited individual and group counseling services to assess and address issues affecting student’s mental health.

  2. Provide crisis counseling services and referrals to higher levels of care.

  3. Provide referrals to on- and off-campus providers for specialized care.

  4. Maintain clinical documentation using electronic medical record software.

  5. Support Adelphi Plus Learning Community students through the academic challenges they experience by providing individualized feedback, skills training, workshops and other outreach services.

  6. Consult with Adelphi Plus Learning Community faculty on academic performance of students and r ecommend changes to policies and procedures that will improve the effectiveness of the Adelphi Plus Learning Community.

  7. Participate in Adelphi Plus Learning Community recruitment events including student interviews and Admissions Open Houses (when schedule allows).

  8. Remain abreast of New York State and national legal and ethical policies for mental health practitioners.

  9. Attend regularly scheduled Case Conference and supervision sessions with the Student Counseling Center team.

  10. Opportunity to supervise at least one practicum student (SIFI certification provided by Adelphi) will be available in the future.

  11. Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

    REQUIREMENTS:

  12. New York State license to practice social work, psychology, or mental health counseling. Supervision will be available.

  13. Experienced in short-term dynamic, solution-focused and/or cognitive behavioral therapy with the college-age population.

  14. Ability to be organized and detail -oriented.

  15. Ability to prioritize workload according to volume, urgency, etc.

  16. Excellent written and oral communication skills.

  17. Excellent interpersonal skills.

  18. Strong computer skills using MS Windows, Microsoft Word, Excel, popular web browsers, G-Suite and email.

  19. Experienced with providing culturally competent treatment to diverse and underserved populations.

  20. SIFI certification preferred (training can be provided)

  21. Two to four years postgraduate counseling experience.

    EDUCATIONAL/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  22. Masters of Social Work, Mental Health Counseling or Doctorate in Clinical or Counseling Psychology, New York State clinical license.

  23. Minimum two year’s post-license clinical experience.

  24. Previous experience working with the college-age population strongly preferred.
