Newman University Workforce & Community Liaison in Garden City, Kansas

Occupational Summary:

The Workforce and Community Liaison is responsible for enhancing students' career readiness and facilitating practical experiences through internships, co-ops, job shadowing, and clinical placements. This role involves developing and delivering educational presentations, coordinating with high school and college internship coordinators, and building strong relationships with employers to secure meaningful opportunities for students. This requires a dynamic individual capable of fostering positive relationships with prospective and current students while adhering to institutional policies and objectives. Travel is required. The position will split time between Dodge City, Garden City, and Liberal, KS.

This position is responsible for cultivating and maintaining the institution's Catholic identity and its mission to empower graduates to transform society. As a member of the Newman community, the staff member will join with the institution's sponsors, the Adorers of the Blood of Christ (ASC Sisters), to witness God's love in Mission to empower others, foster oneness, celebrate life, form right relationships, and walk as compassionate companions. Additionally, this position contributes to a work environment that encourages knowledge of, respect for, and development of skills to engage with those of other faiths, cultures, or backgrounds.

Essential Job Duties:

  • Recruitment and advising of students.

  • Develop and offer presentations on careers in education, business/agriculture, and healthcare.

  • Coordinate with high school internship coordinators to provide students with applied experiences.

  • Develop and offer resume-building workshops.

  • Conduct mock interviews for students.

  • Coordinate the provision of internships and co-ops .

  • Secure and arrange job shadowing opportunities.

  • Identify clinical placements.

  • Organize and attend job fairs for careers in education, business, healthcare.

  • Develop and supervise paid internship program.

  • Coordinate with employers for site placements for apprentices.

  • Coordinate with employers for site placements for apprentices.

    Requirements:

  • Associate’s degree required; bachelor's degree in management, sociology, education, or a similar field preferred.

  • Two years of experience working with employers or community partners; previous work with college students and job placement preferred.

  • Strong organizational skills .

  • Excellent written and oral communications skills .

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.

    Benefits

  • Position is full time (40hrs) and works 12 months per year.

  • Paid time off and benefits starting after first 30 days.

  • Approximately 20 days off with pay for observed holidays/breaks with an additional 2 weeks of vacation time accrued per year.

  • Tuition waiver for employee, spouse and eligible dependents after one year of employment.
