Position Summary: Responsible for new programs costing and sourcing processes, identifying and executing cost reduction ideas, managing supplier capacity, and resolving plant escalations within the Bus Axle product line in North America.

What you can look forward to as a Program Buyer:

  • Support projects through procurement of all materials needed.

  • Support the implementation of ZF commodity strategies and execute design change initiatives to deliver VAVE savings.

  • Manage the whole purchasing process for new products or localization of existing products through supplier search and Bill of Material cost management; support the commodity organization in their request for quotations, commercial negotiations, contractual agreements including warranty and consignment agreements, prototype orders, and purchase orders and/or scheduling agreements.

  • Monitor the performance of the suppliers during program launch and through product life cycle.

  • Continuously review cost performance to target; nominate parts for Global Competitive Sourcing and get directional quotes for cost estimate purpose.

  • Track costs through life cycle of product, while maintaining detailed cost tracking with suppliers.

  • Explore methods/materials for total cost management and cost structure analysis.

  • Update tracking tools according to industry best practices and ZF company policy.

Your profile as a Program Buyer:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business Administration, Economics, or related field.

  • 5+ years of relevant experience in a professional purchasing capacity (i.e., technical/commodity purchasing, purchasing project management, purchasing management, etc.).

  • Experience with supplier analysis and evaluation (i.e., quality, capacity, cost, etc.).

  • Experience with supplier bidding process, negotiation, and cost estimating.

  • Experience with APQP and/or project management tools and methods.

  • Knowledge of purchasing tools, negotiation methods, and business communications.

  • Knowledge of cost improvement/containment topics and techniques.

  • Experience with SAP and proficiency with Excel (i.e., Pivot Tables, Formulas, Filters, etc.).

*Ability and willingness to travel domestically.

Preferred Skills & Experience:

  • Spanish or German language skills are a plus.

  • Working knowledge in blueprint reading, statistics, PPAP documentation, product costing and specifications.

  • Purchasing experience in the automotive industry.
