Job Description:
The Student Health Care Center (SHCC) at the University of Florida in the Department of Community Health and Family Medicine (CHFM) seeks a full-time dedicated Registered Nurse I to join our team. In this role, you will deliver patient care in line with RN License standards across various Primary Care teams and SHCC Psychiatry. Your responsibilities will include performing treatments and procedures, administering medications, screening and counseling patients, and collecting and documenting vital signs, visual acuity, and point-of-care testing as directed by providers. Additionally, you will provide independent care to patients following practice protocols and standing orders. You will also support providers by coordinating clinical activities, interfacing with SHCC providers and CWC counselors, and facilitating entry into care for students seeking counseling and psychiatric services.
RN Responsibilities:
Coordinate prescription refills in collaboration with the providers in the assigned clinic.
Assist with medication Pre-Authorizations.
Assist patients with telephone management of medication concerns, side effects, and referrals when indicated.
Assist patients with laboratory referrals and results to the providers.
Acquire and maintain current knowledge of clinical nursing practice, including emergency procedures, equipment, and supplies.
Consider factors relating to safety, effectiveness, and cost in planning and delivering patient care.
Provide independent care to patients using Practice Protocols.
Monitor patient response to treatments.
Provide treatment procedures and administer medications as directed by providers.
Clinical Duties:
Assess patients’ vital signs and provide patient education in general health maintenance and preventive care.
Document all care and services within the Electronic Medical Record (EMR), Epic.
Start IVs, perform wound care and dressings, and administer medications.
Screen and counsel patients and collect visual acuity when necessary.
Perform Point-of-Care testing.
Facilitate patient flow to providers in a timely, efficient, and customer-friendly manner.
Serve specialized patient populations such as transgender, eating disorders, obesity, anxiety, and depression as needed.
Triage Patients:
+ + Triage high volume of patients by telephone and in person, ensuring their health problems are appropriately managed promptly.
Obtain and review intake records, previous provider records, and current medical/mental health history to determine acuity and need for services.
Collaborate closely with clinical providers and Psychiatry providers as needed regarding high-risk patients to ensure continuity of care and safety.
Communicate with patients to ensure compliance with care and follow-up.
Assist with Referrals:
Assist with referrals within CWC and to community psychiatric and medical services.
Maintain patient contact to ensure services were received and documented.
Understand and contribute to the implementation of departmental and institutional goals for achieving non-discrimination and creating a multicultural environment.
Meetings and Continuing Education:
Attend SHCC Team meetings and Nursing Staff meetings at SHCC.
Participate in programs of quality improvement, peer review, and continuing education.
Coordination of Services:
Coordinate services in their home team, including but not limited to providing consultation with SHCC providers and CWC counseling staff regarding SHCC Psychiatry services.
Perform other related duties as required.
Schedule:Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, 40 hours/week. Hours and days can vary according to the SHCC’s needs - Provides weekend coverage as assigned.

Expected Salary:
The initial salary is $28.00 to $31.00 hourly, commensurate with experience.

Minimum Requirements:
Graduate of a nationally accredited nursing program. Licensed as a registered nurse in accordance with Chapter 464, Florida Statutes. Current CPR certification
Preferred Qualifications:
AA degree or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree is highly preferred.
Two years of relevant experience, including psychiatry in both outpatient and inpatient settings.
Proficient in providing patient care using sound nursing practices, including understanding pathophysiology.
Knowledgeable in mental health, including common psychiatric medications and their side effects.
Familiar with electronic health records used in psychiatry and can document patient interactions.
Proficient in Microsoft programs (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.).
Skilled in-patient triage and assessment.
Skilled in performing CPR, administering intramuscular, subcutaneous, and intradermal injections, administering oxygen, and starting, monitoring, and administering intravenous (IV) fluids and medications.
Experienced in performing wound care and Point-of-Care Testing.
Effective written and verbal communication with patients, providers, nursing staff, family members, and staff.
Ability to take pertinent histories and document them in appropriate health records.
Proficient in administering medications
Ability to provide treatment to patients using guidelines, policies, and Standing Orders.
Psychiatric Registered Nurse Certification eligible and obtained within 2 years of hire.
