Job Description:
This position is responsible for the coordination of clinical and retrospective research and supervision of
other personnel involved in the research process. Other responsibilities include research development,
data collection, data evaluation, and patient and staff education. This includes coordination between
intra-and inter-department personnel, sponsoring companies, as well as communication with families and
patients regarding their condition and the study process.
Duties Include:
Administrative Management
• Primary administrative manager for all research related activities within the department,
supervising the day-to-day operations of clinical research
• Develops program for patient and family education regarding procedures, protocols, and patient
condition
• Design new project protocols and implement adjustments in methods and/or procedures of data
collection and management in order to maintain high level of accuracy and efficiency for existing protocols.
• Manages equipment and maintains research patient records, prepares scientific data for
presentation, reviews manuscripts for publication and assists with the permanent storage of research
records
• Development of data collection tools and research summaries. Provides training to all team
personnel (nurses, technicians, students and physicians) regarding equipment operation, monitoring
procedures, and in the care and treatment of research participants to maintain excellent nursing care while
preserving protocol guidelines and remaining in compliance with nursing standards
• Prioritization and delegation of duties and projects to the research staff
• Allocates effort and salary of clinical research staff for on-going projects within approved budget
• Determines staffing increases as appropriate
• Management of undergraduate/med student volunteers helping with faculty research projects
• All department IRB maintenance and submission
• All department clinical trial budgeting and fiscal management
• Institutional submissions (CRH, Oncore, etc).
• Help with ophthalmology department clinical trial management.
Pre/Post Project and Data Management
• Selection of patients in the perioperative care environment for various studies and protocols,
summarizing patients’ condition and completion of data collection forms
• Industry sponsored and grant budget negotiations and finance/payment invoicing and tracking, and
budget work on grants to ensure costs are accurately accounted for and covered
Reporting and Analysis
• Assists the Research Administrators to provide monthly reports to the Department Administrator
and Chair
• Prepares an analysis as required for immediate and long range management planning, progress
reports, and funding proposals
• Communicates financial needs and limitations of project/program to Principal Investigator
• Advises the Associate Chair of Research and Department Administrator regarding ongoing and

upcoming projects, and the need to create/implement policy change
• Develops budget for research protocols: includes obtaining hospital costs, salary information, etc.
• Prepares data for analysis of research and subsequent submission of data for publication
• Monitors publications throughout the publication process to ensure compliance, transparency and
repeatability of all research products
• Coordinates Department Celebration of Research
• Any other duties, as needed, to fulfill the mission and to abide by the values of the College of
Medicine.
Expected Salary:$88,000 - $100,000
Minimum Requirements:
Master’s degree in appropriate area of specialization; or a bachelor’s degree in appropriate areas of
specialization and two years of experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
2 years’ experience with clinical research.
Prior Perioperative Patient Care/Nursing Experience.
Knowledge of nursing principles, practices and techniques.

Knowledge of basic principles of clinical research.
Skill in the use of nursing equipment and instruments
Ability to collect, collate, analyze and evaluate data from clinical research studies.
Ability to work with patients in the surgical intensive care unit.
Ability to plan, organize and coordinate work assignments.
Ability to work effectively and independently.
