Job Description:

Manages and coordinates activities of electrical and generator shops staff (primary to HSC/VetMed areas, engaged in the operation, maintenance, and repairs of the electrical systems for HSC/Vet-Med facilities. This includes the repair and maintenance of existing distribution systems, lighting, electrical components, portable and permanently installed electrical devices, servicing equipment and generator unit to include oil changes and other tasks necessary to complete and annual service plan. Plan and schedule work for assigned staff, ensuring proper distribution of assignments and adequate staffing levels. Establish and update maintenance standards and priorities. Develop, estimate, and manage electrical improvement and renewal projects for current and future budgeting cycles.

Guide, train and give assistance to employees engaged in daily building electrical and generator maintenance tasks and projects. Inspect completed assignments to ensure quality work, operating procedures, efficiency, progress, methods and practices, safety and other established standards and requirements are satisfactorily met and maintained. Review and update building electrical maintenance specifications based on the best use of personnel, budget constraints and trades practices.

Establish and maintain direct personal contact with a wide spectrum of campus community members affected and/or concerned with the quality, safety, and comfort of the conditions within the buildings. Consults with the customers with regard to concerns about maintenance frequencies, standards, etc. Consult, coordinate and plan with other University Department and organizations to provide support for any building electrical deficiencies.

Establish equipment and supplies maintenance budget and assures accountability. Initiate the purchase of supplies, services, tools, and equipment in accordance with established purchasing procedures. Plan, develop and manage efficient, economical preventive maintenance of tools and equipment assigned to the electrical and generator shops, including schedules and activities to ensure prolonged life, usefulness, and safety of equipment to minimize breakdowns, failures, and hazards.

Participate in the Department computerized work management system and utilize pertinent management reports to evaluate and improve electrical maintenance and operational performance and recommend any deferred maintenance items.

Personnel Management – Ensure the electrical and generator shops personnel are properly trained and updated in proper maintenance/operations practices, safety, and regulatory issues. Provide an employee support system for improved production and efficiencies. Provide performance feedback to employees regarding performance and the results of electrical inspections. Perform employee interviews and select new hires. Perform UF Engaged reviews with employees.

Valid Class E Drivers’ License Required.

THIS POSITION REQUIRES A CRIMINAL BACKGROUND CHECK

NORMAL WORK SCHEDULE: 7:00am – 4:00pm Monday through Friday.

Emergency work and Standby as needed

Position considered as Essential Personnel as defined by UF Policy

Expected Salary:

$63,000- $65,000 Annually based on experience.

Minimum Requirements:

Completion of an approved apprenticeship program in a recognized trade and relevant experience to total five years; or a high school diploma or equivalent and five years of relevant experience. Appropriate vocational/technical training may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

Five years direct supervisory experience in the Building Electric field of systems or a combination of education and experience. Experience in an institutional research setting. - Proficient in computer skills, including Word, Excel, and Outlook e-mail.
