Job Description:

SAMPLE PROCESSING

Process samples after receipt at the laboratory. Samples are frozen crop commodities and include a wide variety of fruits, leafy greens, seeds, nuts, oils, pastes, and purees. The majority are processed using large food processers such as a Robot Coupe. Blenders or mills may be used on some sample types. Some commodities require reduction in size using knives or machetes before processing. After processing, material is subsampled into smaller jars. Equipment is cleaned between samples using soap and water followed by rinsing with organic solvents. Maintain records of sample processing.

SAMPLE RECEIPT

Receive samples and review associated paperwork for accuracy and completeness. Assign laboratory identification numbers. Send receipt notifications. Initiate and maintain laboratory sample chain of custody records.

ORGANIZATION AND INVENTORY OF STORAGE AREAS

Organize sample storage areas and maintain inventories. Dispose of samples and solutions as directed and clean storage jars.

PURCHASING AND RECEIPT OF LABORATORY SUPPLIES

Order supplies as directed by laboratory personnel. Receive purchases and distribute items.

ARCHIVES ASSISTANT

Assist with photocopying or scanning of documents, and the organization and maintenance of archives. Assist with preparation of records for off-site shipment.

HAZARDOUS WASTE MANAGEMENT

Ensure hazardous wastes generated within the lab are properly stored. Arrange for removal of hazardous waste by Environmental Safety and Health.

OTHER DUTIES

Download and maintain records from data loggers. Participate in required training activities. Prepare and package samples for off-site shipment. General lab maintenance. Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Expected Salary:$18.68 - $22.84

Minimum Requirements:

Associate’s degree in an appropriate area; or a high school diploma or equivalent and two years of related experience. Appropriate college course work or vocational/technical training may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

Familiarity with Microsoft Office and Microsoft Access software packages.
