Your Specific Responsibilities:

Minority AIDS Coordinator (MAC) Roles and Responsibilities

This is a highly responsible professional position with lead responsibility for minority focused HIV/AIDS prevention, care and early intervention activities in an assigned area of the state (area 3/13). It is a position that interreacts with the community and faith-based organizations as well as Health Departments in 15 counties (area 3/13). The primary responsibilities of this position include addressing and facilitating the HIV needs within the minority community. Fifty percent of the time is dedicated to linkage to care activities. This position is assigned to and stationed at the Florida Department of Health, Alachua County and reports to the HIV/AIDS Program Administrator for the area.

The incumbent will:

• Facilitate statewide efforts focused on HIV prevention and care initiative and programs which reduce racial/ethnic disparities.

• Develop and implement community mobilization initiatives focused on communities of color to ensure awareness and accessibility of available HIV prevention and care resources and services

• Advise the Statewide (Regional) Minority AIDS Coordinator of local initiatives and activities that address disparities and health outcomes among people of color related to HIV, STD, and Hepatitis.

• Improve the capacity of community-based organizations able to reach and provide resources and services to people of color.

• Submit MAC Report Form to the Statewide Minority AIDS Coordinator on the third Wednesday of each quarter.

• Provide input and review workplans, Integrated HIV prevention and care plan, ending the HIV epidemic plan to ensure effective strategies and activities are planned and measurable to impact HIV incidence and prevalence among people of color

• Coordinate cross-collaboration with programs addressing health disparities throughout the state.

• Create and sustain synergy activities.

• Coordinate grassroots efforts for building and expanding critical relationships with community partners and organizations in local areas. (BRTA/FRTA)

• Work with minority coalitions groups, and organizations in identifying community problems, prioritizing issues and identifying resources.

• This position may require work hours to be adjusted to meet the needs of the community to include before and after standard hours, and weekends.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Excellent oral and written skills.

• Ability to work independently.

• Knowledge of minority communities and experience working with diverse populations.

• Knowledge of cultural sensitivity, cultural humility, and cultural responsiveness.

• Knowledge of social determinant of health.

• Knowledge of and experience working with STD/HIV/Hepatitis programs.

• Knowledge and skills using digital platforms for community engagement and meetings.

• Knowledge and skills conducting community mobilization.

• Ability to apply culturally appropriate strategies.

• Ability to be flexible to successfully adapt to program changes.

• Ability to travel.

Minimum – Experience working with HIV/STD and diverse communities.
