Job Description:
The Assistant Director reports to and assists the Director of the Finance Professional Development (FPD) Program – educational training program for undergraduate students pursuing careers in finance. This position is responsible for the management of FPD Tracks, and strategic planning for the FPD program overall. This role supervises employees and student staff, and guides industry professionals supporting FPD Tracks.
This position also improves the job placements of University of Florida undergraduate students that pursue a career in finance by 1) working with students to help them identify opportunities for sophomore and junior summer internships at firms expecting to extend offers to return full-time upon graduation and become prepared to interview of these internships and 2) increasing the number and quality of students that participate in the Finance Professional Development (FPD) program.
Responsible for the direction and implementation of programs building on Finance Professional Development (FPD) Fundamentals program, particularly FPD Tracks. Working alongside with the Director of the Finance Professional Development Program, the person in this position will participate in strategic planning for different parts of the Finance Professional Development program and assist the Director in executing the overall FPD mission.
The person in this position is responsible for identifying sophomore and junior summer internship placement opportunities and nurturing relationships with the hiring entities to ensure that a variety of high caliber job placement opportunities are available for the students.
Student Development & Supervision
• Supervise and facilitate development of workshops for FPD students covering: Different areas of industry in finance, Career Self-Assessment, Company Networking Preparation Exercises, Industry Appropriate Resumes, and Interview Preparation.
• Responsible for the direction and implementation of programs building on Finance Professional Development (FPD) Fundamentals program, particularly FPD Tracks.
• Working alongside with the Director of the Finance Professional Development Program, the person in this position will participate in strategic planning for different parts of the FPD program and assist the Director in executing the overall FPD mission while implementing policies and procedures for student development.
• Advance development of lesson plans and workshops, and manage their delivery. Continuously monitor and supervise the flow of workshops and revise them as necessary to align with student needs.
• Continue to create and implement strategies for incorporating upperclassmen, faculty, alumni, industry professionals, and partner with the Warrington Career Business Services Office to help students identify appropriate career fits.
• Responsible for managing coaching of students on properly conducting themselves at various stages of relationships with hiring firms as well as non-hiring industry professionals.
• Conduct high-level interview preparation for industry-specific internship recruiting
• Ensure that all programming for FPD comply with university, state, and federal regulations.
• Perform other duties assigned by the FPD Director or other appropriate administrator.
Individualized Educational Planning and Career Placement Guidance
• As students self-select specific industry roles and firms, manage program coordinator and student staff to build internship placement strategy for the student, including relevant certifications, student involvements, and technical trainings.
• Facilitate and supervise guidance of students on career placement decisions through counseling meetings, and initiate mentor relationships with older students and alumni.
• Continuously assess Finance Professional Development students’ individual progress through their program attendance, successful completion of program requirements, continual industry-appropriate self-education, professional growth through participation and leadership in relevant student organizations and jobs.
• The person in this position will introduce students to the College’s Graduate Combined Degree Programs.
Hiring Firm Relationship Development and Management
• Supervise continued operations of FPD, building on the Fundamentals program. Provide supervision and guidance of employers and industry professionals supporting FPD Tracks.
• Develop, establish, monitor, and report performance goals and metrics for FPD Tracks to evaluate their success.
• Be the subject matter expert about scope of finance jobs, learning their career paths and which firms offer summer and starting analyst roles. Know the appropriate skills sets, education, personal characteristics and traits necessary for a student to get hired and be successful in the available opportunities.
• Maintain personal relationships with the hiring firms, staying in tune with their hiring needs and calendars, helping identify ideal students.
• Supervise and advise FPD Board to execute annual goals and coordinate industry engagements.
• Attend FPD alumni meetings, events, industry engagements, and trips that are significant to building and maintaining hiring relationships.
Expected Salary:
$76,000.00 - $86,000.00, commensurate with experience.
Minimum Requirements:
Master’s degree in appropriate area of specialization and two years of appropriate experience or a bachelor’s degree in appropriate areas of specialization and six years of experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Experience creating, planning, organizing, directing, teaching and coordinating a variety of student development as well as relationship building events.
Experience building and managing relationships with potential hiring firms and alumni.
Record of placing students in internship and full-time jobs.
