Job Description:

The Department of Philosophy in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences at the University of Florida invites applications for a full-time, nine-month, tenure-accruing position at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor beginning August 16, 2025. Required area of specialization (AOS): History of Modern Philosophy, Epistemology, Ethics, or Social/Political Philosophy. Must be able to teach (AOC) foundational courses in Early Modern Philosophy on a regular basis. The successful candidate will pursue an active research agenda and provide service to the department, the university, and the profession. Tenure-line faculty are typically assigned four courses per academic year at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Applicants who wish to be considered at the rank of Associate Professor must have an established record of high-quality research and the ability to contribute significantly to graduate education.

The department has recently grown with multiple hires in the last several years. It is committed to ensuring a robust coverage of all the core areas of philosophy, though it has developed special strength in the ethics of technology and artificial intelligence. This latter strength has enabled the department to play a critical role in UF's AI initiative (https://ai.ufl.edu), both in teaching and research, including interdisciplinary research.

Expected Salary:

The salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience, and the compensation includes a full benefits package.

Preferred Qualifications:

An active research agenda in at least one of the specified areas of specialization, as well as experience in teaching Modern Philosophy.
