Job Purpose:

Support planning, organization, and the management of technical projects. The Project Engineer will participate in project initiation, planning, execution, monitoring, and closeout activities to support the development of software products in support of the Advanced Rail Technology team in Fort Worth, TX.

The purpose of this position is to contribute to the design, development and deployment of world class rail products and services vital to our customer’s needs. This role will enable innovative, strategic, and high-tech solutions for the rail industry through the application of specialized knowledge, skills, and abilities. Work involves independent judgement, problem solving skills, resourcefulness, teamwork, and creativity in ambiguous situations. A high degree of personal initiative is a prerequisite. Typical project engineering efforts are a combination of some or all of the key job elements listed below.

The ideal candidate is a self-starter, willing to take on different tasks to create and maintain project plans based on customer requirements, determine required deliverables and milestones, work within the Agile team structure to estimate tasks and monitor progress. An essential attribute is the ability to function extremely well as a team member, at times conceding personal preferred solutions to those that make business, functional and strategic sense.

Education / Training:

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an accredited university required;

• MBA or other master’s degree preferred.

Key Job Elements:

• Support the development and execution of new product releases;

• Applies knowledge of engineering principles and practices, in design, development, analysis and release of products and subsystems;

• Interface with the customer and internal stakeholders to understand and create project requirements and deliverables;

• Deploy railway systems in operation both in the United States and abroad with travel of up to 30%;

• Analyze product specifications and decompose requirements to create and maintain a project plan;

• Identify and manage project risk and changes in scope;

• Participate with the Agile team (software, test, product owners) to ensure the timely execution of high-quality deliverables;

• Participate in customer and engineering system requirements development;

• Review train handling performance and develop reports and recommendations;

• Analyze fuel performance and recommend areas of improvement;

• Prepare manuals and other project documentation;

• Works closely with the different engineering groups to deploy practical and highly functional systems for railways;

• Travel as required.

Qualifications and Experience:

Required Skills

• 3+ years’ experience in project, systems, or mechanical engineering;

• Proven experience as an engineer in a technical role;

• Solid understanding of engineering fundamentals and best practices;

• Above-average analytical, conceptual, and troubleshooting abilities;

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills;

• Detail oriented, with a solid track record prioritizing and executing tasks under pressure;

• Previous experience working in an Agile team;

• Train handling and energy management experience preferred;

• Ability to travel as required.

Preferred Education & Credentials

• Experience testing and automating embedded products;

• JAMA or other project system requirements tools;

• Rally, JIRA, or a similar agile development tool;

• Experience with CICD pipelines;

• Scrum or agile certification;

• Rail domain and energy management and train handling operation;

• Team leadership experience preferred.

Essential and Physical Activities Functions:

• Strength – Position typically involves work in a standard office environment. Position also requires the ability to install rack-mounted 4U test stand components. Constant sitting. Occasional standing and walking;

• Motion – Position regularly requires standard motions associated with working for extended hours in an office environment and in front of a computer. Work on test stands requires standing and bending for extended periods;

• Vision/Hearing Requirements – Ability to distinguish colors on various screen types. Frequent verbal communications, including both talking and hearing. Ability to participate in web-based meetings where audio quality is diminished. Ability to communicate in a noisy environment with coworkers;

• Work Environment – Position is consistent with standard office environment;

• Emotional Demands –Requires ability to work with a team to accomplish mission success;

• Safety – Position includes safety requirements consistent primarily with a standard office environment.
