BD (Becton, Dickinson and Company) Global Trade Import Operations Specialist in Franklin Lakes, New Jersey

Job Description Summary

Reporting directly to the Senior Manager, Global Trade Operations, this position supports the import operations function in developing and maintaining BD’s imports operational compliance requirements and controls. This position requires sufficient knowledge and experience of managing import brokerage activities, fully understands CBP and other government agencies’ requirements for Global Trade import activities. It is directly involved in ensuring compliance with US government import rules and regulations. This position will work cross-functionally with internal departments including procurement, master data organization, Global Transportation, distribution centers and regulatory to ensure that all import trade compliance requirements are met. This position will work with worldwide regions to ensure alignment with global trade initiatives as well as government agencies as required. This position plays a critical role in ensuring timely and cost-effective clearance and delivery of BD import finished goods, raw materials and components to BD DC's and manufacturing sites. This position will manage import Customs brokers performance.

Job Summary:

We are seeking a motivated Global Trade Compliance Specialist to join our team in Warsaw. This role will be responsible for ensuring compliance of all customs activities within the organization, including import/export transactions, classification, valuation, free trade agreements, sanctions, denied parties screening, license requirements, audits, and more. The ideal candidate will have experience working with global supply chain management systems, as well as excellent communication skills and attention to detail. Responsibilities:

  • Manage all aspects of customs clearance for imports into Poland, including preparation and submission of declarations, documentation, and payment of duties and taxes

  • Coordinate with external customs brokers to ensure timely and accurate clearance of goods

  • Monitor shipments to ensure compliance with regulations and avoid delays or penalties

  • Maintain records related to customs activities, such as duty payments, exemptions, and refunds

  • Stay informed about changes in customs laws and regulations and implement necessary adjustments accordingly

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to streamline processes and minimize disruptions due to customs requirements

  • Conduct regular audits to verify compliance with customs regulations and take corrective action when needed

  • Provide training and guidance to internal stakeholders on customs procedures and best practices

  • Assist in developing strategies to optimize customs operations and reduce costs associated with customs compliance

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in International Trade, Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, or equivalent

  • Proven experience (typically 2+ years) in international trade compliance, preferably with a focus on customs compliance

  • Strong knowledge of customs regulations, procedures, and compliance requirements in Poland and EU

  • Familiarity with global supply chain management systems and tools used for tracking shipments

  • Excellent organizational and time management skills, with the ability to meet tight deadlines and balance multiple priorities effectively

  • Detail-oriented mindset with a proactive approach to identifying potential issues and proposing solutions

  • Effective communicator with both technical and non-technical colleagues at various levels of the organization

  • Fluent English language proficiency required; additional languages beneficial but not essential
