Director of Software Development, Oracle Database Appliance (ODA)

As a director of the software development for the Oracle Database Appliance (ODA) (http://oracle.com/oda) engineered system, you will be responsible for managing a world-wide development organization that delivers an integrated solution of software, compute, networking, and storage optimized and engineered to offer high-availability, performance, and simple management for Oracle Databases and applications at an affordable price. Thousands of ODA deployments are used by small and medium businesses as well as enterprise customers to run their business critical Oracle databases and applications. The technology is also integral to Oracle’s cloud at customer solutions. The ODA software development team collaborates with the Oracle hardware division to deliver customers the latest technology engineered to be high performance and highly available at an affordable cost. ODA software orchestrates complete lifecycle management of databases and the underlying software infrastructure across a range of deployment options. Regular software releases provide constantly evolving functionality as well as the latest security and stability fixes from firmware to operating system to clustering and database software.

You will apply your extensive knowledge of systems software architecture to manage software development tasks associated with designing, developing, deploying, and debugging software applications, operating systems, and databases. Build enhancements within an existing software architecture and envision future improvements to the architecture to take advantage of software innovations within the Oracle Database and Linux Operating System as well as hardware innovations in compute, storage, and networking.

  • Provide strategy, leadership, and technical direction for a geographically distributed team (U.S, Mexico, and India) of senior and junior engineers

  • Manage and deliver timely, high-quality hardware and software releases

  • Develop a prioritized roadmap of products, features, and enhancements

  • Drive the delivery of roadmap commitments including large cross-functional projects on time with high quality

  • Work closely with a variety of stakeholders (Database development, Linux development, hardware division, product management, release management, customer support, functional and system testing) to ensure cross-organizational dependencies are managed effectively

  • Provide regular updates and feature presentation/demos to upper management

US: Hiring Range in USD from: $122,500 to $291,800 per annum. May be eligible for bonus, equity, and compensation deferral.

Oracle maintains broad salary ranges for its roles in order to account for variations in knowledge, skills, experience, market conditions and locations, as well as reflect Oracle’s differing products, industries and lines of business.

Candidates are typically placed into the range based on the preceding factors as well as internal peer equity.

For employees working at least 35 hours per week, the vacation accrual rate is 13 days annually for the first three years of employment and 18 days annually for subsequent years of employment. Vacation accrual is prorated for employees working between 20 and 34 hours per week. Employees working fewer than 20 hours per week are not eligible for vacation.
