Job Description
EH&S Associate Director – Corporate Regulatory Compliance and Product Stewardship Support
An invigorating opportunity is available in the Corporate Environmental, Health & Safety (EH&S) Department as we continue to assemble a world-class EH&S team at Gilead. To support the growth in operational footprint and headcount globally, the EH&S function is expanding its Corporate EH&S team to ensure compliance while developing a proactive EH&S culture via execution of initiatives associated with pursuit of ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 certification at our headquarters in Foster City and Gilead sites globally. The successful candidate will be joining a highly motivated and cross-functional team to expand and manage monitoring, product stewardship and auditing programs that support regulatory and corporate reporting associated with operations and stewardship of our rapidly expanding pharmaceutical product catalog. You must be an independent self-starter with superior analysis, multitasking, and problem-solving skills for simple to complex situations. You will be relied upon as a subject matter expert in the areas for which you are responsible and should be eager to learn about and support other areas of the team when needed. This individual must possess strong interpersonal capabilities that facilitate the explanation of complex topics straightforwardly to educate and influence management, colleagues, and customers to ensure the successful implementation of EH&S programs and directives as assigned.
General Responsibilities of EH&S Team Members
The EH&S Associate Director – Corporate Regulatory Compliance and Product Stewardship Support will serve as an agent of change within their areas of responsibility while effectively ensuring compliance and proliferation of best practices throughout customer organizations.
Identify, document, and resolve potential gaps in EH&S programs.
Establish a positive rapport with staff, scientists, and management to ensure a high level of customer service and serve as a primary point of contact for customer groups.
Assist with implementing general elements of Global EH&S Programs across Gilead, as defined by local, state, and federal agencies.
Essential Duties and Job Functions of the Role
Based at the Gilead Foster City campus, the specific responsibilities for this role focus on Regulatory Compliance and Product Stewardship Support associated with EH&S functions of all locations where Gilead does business to ensure regulatory compliance as well as the advancement of EH&S culture while providing world-class customer service. This role requires execution with independent management and minimal supervision. Although this role is based in Foster City, travel (nationally and internationally) may be periodically required. This role may support hybrid work opportunities (maximum of 1 day/week remote).
Regulatory Compliance Monitoring
The successful candidate will be expected to develop, maintain, and execute programs to ensure site readiness at all global Gilead locations associated with:
Authoring, communication, tools, training, and audits for site compliance with Corporate EH&S Programs as well as local, regional, and national regulatory requirements anywhere that Gilead does business.
Monitoring, collection, and presentation of data as required for corporate and regulatory reporting.
Methods for operational evaluations to ensure EH&S compliance at all global operational sites of Gilead or Kite and their partners as determined appropriate.
Product Stewardship
Participate and support development, deployment, and management of programs for material and product support related to all Gilead commercial and clinical pharmaceutical products to meet and maintain global regulatory and external partner requirements including:
Adhering to ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 standards.
Alignment with all Environmental Protection Agency guidelines regarding Pharmaceutical in the Environment (PIE).
Registration, Evaluation, Authorization, and Restriction of Chemicals (REACH) requirements.
Knowledge, Experience and Skills Required
Basic Qualifications:
High School Degree and Fourteen Year's Experience
OR
Associates Degree and Twelve Years Experience
OR
Bachelor's Degree and Ten Years’ Experience
OR
Masters' Degree and Eight Years’ Experience
OR
PhD and Two Years’ Experience
Degree in Chemistry/Biology/Environmental Sciences with progressive relevant experience in EH&S and industry preferred
Experience with the development and implementation of a compliance and management system audit in alignment with regulations and ISO 14001 and ISO 45001.
Working knowledge of all relevant OSHA, Cal/OSHA, EPA, DOT, and NFPA regulatory requirements.
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Demonstrated experience in interacting with regulatory agencies.
Demonstrated experience in working in collaborative teams.
Demonstrated experience with working under minimal supervision.
Demonstrated success with leading manager and peers without authority.
Anticipate needs and problems while creating and implementing solutions.
The ability to effectively shift priorities on short notice and work at a rapid pace is required.
Relevant experience may supersede degree requirements.
Experience Preferred
Implementation of EH&S Management systems to enable certification for ISO 14001 and 45001.
Managing and conducting EH&S corporate program and site audits.
Use and/or management of EH&S Management Software.
Proven effectiveness at improving processes to increase efficiency and customer service.
Knowledge and Skills Preferred
Professional Certification such as CSP or CIH.
Certification for ISO 14001/45001 Program Auditing.
Experience in the pharmaceutical, biotech, or related industry.

The salary range for this position is: $182,070.00 - $235,620.00. Gilead considers a variety of factors when determining base compensation, including experience, qualifications, and geographic location. These considerations mean actual compensation will vary. This position may also be eligible for a discretionary annual bonus, discretionary stock-based long-term incentives (eligibility may vary based on role), paid time off, and a benefits package. Benefits include company-sponsored medical, dental, vision, and life insurance plans*.
