Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Staff Accountant to join our finance team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in nonprofit accounting and will be responsible for managing the financial activities of six distinct entities within our organization. This role includes overseeing general ledger activities, preparing financial reports, ensuring compliance with accounting standards, and supporting the CFO with strategic financial planning.

Key Responsibilities:

Financial Management:

  • Maintain and oversee the general ledger for six entities, ensuring accuracy and completeness of financial records.

  • Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements for each entity.

  • Conduct monthly reconciliations of all bank accounts and balance sheet accounts.

  • Manage accounts payable and accounts receivable processes, ensuring timely and accurate processing.

Budgeting and Forecasting:

  • Assist in the development and management of the annual budget for each entity.

  • Monitor actual expenses against budgeted amounts and provide variance analysis.

  • Prepare financial forecasts and cash flow projections to support organizational planning.

Grant and Fund Management:

  • Track and report on grant expenditures, ensuring compliance with grantor requirements.

  • Prepare financial reports and documentation for grant applications and renewals.

  • Assist program managers with budget preparation and financial reporting for funded projects.

Audit and Compliance:

  • Prepare for and assist with annual audits, providing necessary documentation and support to auditors.

  • Ensure compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and nonprofit accounting standards.

  • Maintain internal controls and procedures to safeguard organizational assets.

Payroll and Benefits Administration:

  • Oversee payroll processing and ensure accuracy of employee compensation and benefits.

  • Manage employee benefits, including health insurance, retirement plans, and other related programs.

  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll regulations.

Financial Reporting and Analysis:

  • Prepare and present financial reports to the CFO, Executive Director, and Board of Directors.

  • Provide financial analysis and insights to support decision-making and strategic planning.

  • Develop and maintain financial dashboards and performance metrics.

Systems and Process Improvement:

  • Utilize accounting software and other financial management tools to streamline processes.

  • Identify opportunities for process improvements and implement best practices.

  • Provide training and support to finance team members and other staff as needed.

  • Requirements • Proficiency in Accounts Payable (AP) and Accounts Receivable (AR) management

• Experience in conducting Bank Reconciliations

• Aptitude for managing General Ledger

• Familiarity with Journal Entries creation and maintenance

• Skilled in executing Month End Close procedures

• Proficiency in using QuickBooks accounting software

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field

• Strong analytical skills and attention to detail

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

• Ability to work independently and as part of a team

• Demonstrated integrity and adherence to ethical standards

• Knowledge of applicable laws, codes, and regulations

• Excellent time management skills and ability to meet deadlines

• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Excel.
