    POSITION SUMMARY:

    With minimal guidance in a team environment, is accountable for the strategic direction and development of the NDT department and certifications of the NDT and weld teams. Responsible for complexed assignments and products and takes initiative to research problems and develop solutions. Performs job independently and serves as key resource to leadership and other team members.

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

    Participates on cross functional teams and with customers on the development of techniques and procedures for new projects. Provide strategic direction for lean/continuous improvement initiatives for the department.

    Leads and assigns daily tasks for the department, provides process and or technical direction, reviews team metrics and customer requirements. Assists in facilitating team problem solving and team meetings, as required.

    Determines the skill level of individual team members in NDT. Provides and coordinates training to increase team members’ job knowledge and abilities. Provides input on employee reviews, development plans and goal setting. Assists team leader with follow up to ensure that development goals are achieved, and counseling team members as appropriate/required.

    Run all equipment, parts and processes for the NDT department as necessary. Conduct NDT Level I, II, and III exams for certification in all methods. Maintains certification/skill level records for all team members.

    Prepares for and successfully conducts internal audits and approves NDT inspection procedures for vendors and writes and or approves internal techniques. Retains, reviews, maintains, and administers welder examinations and certifications.

    Helps to ensure team achieves results, meets goals, and follows up promptly on action items and requests, which may include material availability. Tracks the productivity of the team.

    Assists team leaders in meeting team production results as well as team and division objectives. Supports an environment of efficiency, quality, and customer satisfaction.

    Ensures the team follows quality and safety policies and procedures and maintains certification as the responsible RSO (Radiation Safety Officer). Observes all company policies and procedures, including safety rules, and maintains a clean and orderly work area.

    Teams with planners, manufacturing engineering, quality engineering, and supervisors on projects to implement changes to reduce errors and improve throughput.

    Facilitates the distribution of resources/people to ensure that all work centers within the area are appropriately covered. Assists in determining the need for overtime.

    Maintains a satisfactory high level of performance while following appropriate procedures and observing all pertinent safety rules and requirements.

    Maintains appropriate knowledge and ability levels to efficiently perform all assigned work and utilizes this knowledge base to become proficient on new/unfamiliar assignments.

    Actively participates in lean/continuous improvement initiatives by identifying and providing suggestions on areas for improvement. Applies lean concepts and tools in work areas.

    Provides necessary guidance and supervision to trainees and other personnel in the technique/method for which they are certified.

    Ensures equipment calibration and preventive maintenance are maintained on all NDT equipment.

    Other duties as required to assist the team leader.

    Requires high school diploma or equivalent and 8 – 10 years’ experience as a certified Radiographic Level 3 per NAS-410 requirements. At a minimum, 2 years of the required 8 - 10 years’ experience must be as a certified Radiographic (CR or DR) Computerized Radiography or Digital Radiography Level 3;Orhave an A.A.S NDT degree and a minimum of 4 years’ experience as a certified Radiographic Level 3 per NAS-410 requirements. At a minimum 1 year of the required 4 years’ experience must be as a certified Radiographic (CR or DR) Computerized Radiography or Digital Radiography Level 3.

    Must possess a current ASNT Level 3 Radiographic Certification and must be able to obtain the ASNT Level 3 Penetrant Certification. Requires Vision examination per the requirements.

    Communicates with vendors, customers, engineers, schedulers, and team members regarding work product and processes and must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations. Able to read and understand written instructions, procedures, drawings and blueprints. Demonstrates effective interpersonal communication skills as well as the ability to work in a team environment.

    Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to utilize computer to access specifications and complete Radiographic inspection reports. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

    Additional Comments:

    The person in this position needs to intermittently move about inside the plant to transition parts through the assigned work areas. The team member frequently remains in a stationary position. The team member has frequent exposure to x-ray equipment and noise and frequently moves materials weighing up to 30 lbs. around the plant.
