Transportation Engineer II: Performs complex transportation engineering work in one or more functional areas such as planning, project development and design, construction, transportation/traffic operations and/ maintenance. Ensures compliance with applicable federal and state laws, policies, procedures, standards and guidelines. Work requires contact with governmental officials and private entities. Employees at this level perform work independently on assignments; however all unusual issues are referred to the supervisor.Transportation Engineer III: Performs advanced and complex transportation engineering work in one or more functional areas such as planning, project development and design, construction, transportation/traffic operations and maintenance. Ensures compliance with applicable federal and state laws, policies, procedures, standards and guidelines. Work requires contact with governmental officials and private entities. Employees at this level establish their own work plan and priorities to meet set objectives. Issues are rarely referred to the supervisor but are handled at the occurrence.Essential Duties:Transportation Engineer II - III:Acts as a liaison with divisions, MPOs, cities, counties and other governmental entities concerning traffic management and traffic safety projects.Acts in an advisory capacity on administrative, technical, regulatory and engineering aspects of transportation.Oversees construction and audit records.Oversees construction project traffic control plans; periodically reviews traffic control devices with Area Engineers.Oversees contracts, issues work orders and monitors construction schedules and contractor payments and job progress on construction projects.Represents the district/division at technical meetings and public hearings at local, state, federal and/or international levels.Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.Additional duties for Transportation Engineer III:Evaluates and makes recommendations for developing, monitoring, and updating integrated project plans and schedules so that projects may be executed in the most efficient and effective manner possible.Performs advanced and complex planning work such as plan review, calculations and transportation planning studies.Utilizes project management principles in initiating, planning, executing, monitoring, controlling and closing for complex transportation projects.Monitors contractors' compliance with plans and specifications.Represents the district/division at technical meetings and public hearings at local, state, federal and/or international levels.Responsible for the review of construction related to operations.
