Ames Research Center Aerospace Engineer, AST, Aerospace Flight Systems (Direct Hire) in Fort Worth, Texas

Summary As an AST Aerospace Engineer with the Aeronautics Divisions or Offices duty stationed at North Texas Research Station (NTX), you will be responsible for engineering services and support to the Aeronautics Research Mission Directorate by participating in design solution definition and implementation including requirements development, interface definition and management, design trades, risk management, design reviews, verification and validation, planning and execution, and mission operations. Responsibilities Develop, review, and maintain performance requirements and specifications for supported projects. Develop broad resource requirements, policies, procedures, and operational schedules for assigned programs or projects. Develop a systems engineering management plan including system design, integration, and tailoring of systems engineering processes and applicable tools. Contribute to goals in the maintenance, development and use of facilities such as wind tunnels, flight simulators, and air traffic/aviation simulators in the areas of aerodynamics, air traffic management, automation and lifecycle of aviation systems. Perform system analyses, including defining requirements, applying engineering standards, developing new approaches to technical problems, confirming requirement verification and validation processes, and overseeing peer review processes. Support teams of system and sub-system engineers in the area of Aeronautics to develop mission concepts and related project requirements. Contribute and support the development and design of large, new, and unusually complex technology, equipment, or systems that impact national or international programs and result in major advancement in the state-of-the-art for aeronautics. Emphasize development and transfer to government agencies and industry of advanced aeronautical designs, analysis tools, air traffic management and flight systems technology, and research facility (e.g. wind tunnels) operational guidelines. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work. NASA utilizes OPM-approved qualification and rating requirements specific for Aerospace Technology (AST) positions which recognizes NASA's unique aerospace work. The specific qualifications and minimum education requirements are further described below and within the education section of the job announcement. To qualify for GS-11, you must have: a) You must have one year of directly related specialized experience equivalent to the GS-09 level: Assisting colleagues by using engineering solutions to solve problems; Performing technical work in accordance with applicable regulations or project plans with guidance from senior level colleagues; and Training with colleagues to learn new systems, engineering skills, techniques, or leadership skills. Education Basic Education Requirement: You must have successfully completed a bachelor's degree with a major in one of the following: a) Engineering from a college or university that has ABET accredited engineering programs b) Physical Science, Mathematics, Life Science or other field of Science c) Computer Science that included 30 semester hours or 45 quarter hours of course work in any combination of mathematics, statistics and computer science with at least half of those hours in mathematics and statistics courses that included differential and integral calculus; and that provided an in-depth knowledge of theoretical and practical applications of computer science, including digital computer system architecture and system software organization, the representation and transformation of information structures, and the theoretical models for such representations and transformations. If you did not complete a qualifying bachelor's degree, you may be eligible if you have obtained a graduate degree in an AST qualifying field, as listed above. Degrees in engineering technology are not considered qualifying for this position.
