Job Summary
The Point-of Care Coordinator assists in the development, implementation, evaluation and coordination of all aspects of point-of-care testing performed by non-lab staff, and regulatory compliance in the Clinical laboratories. Maintains, monitors and supports the achievement of effective quality programs to guarantee a safe and efficacious quality laboratory testing utilizing good laboratory practices and good manufacturing practices.
Essential Functions
Assisting in the performance of quality control procedures related to the laboratory Point of Care program
Reports test results in a timely manner and according to established laboratory protocol and procedures.
Follows the laboratory's Quality Management System and provides metrics to Laboratory Director related to point of care
Operate and maintain laboratory and hospital point of care equipment
Trains new users of point of care tests and acts as designee for competencies (if qualified).
Quality Assurance, Calibrations, and Quality Control processes
Operates, calibrates, checks, and maintains instrumentation. Recognizes problems with quality control and test procedures and takes appropriate action to ensure quality clinical information. (30%)
Ensures all procedures system procedures are updated and reflect current regulatory and compliance standards.
Review lab results and notifies physician of abnormal results.
Instructs and supervises other technical personnel as directed.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Complies with all policies and standards.
Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree Medical Lab Technology Program, biological or chemical science required
1-2 years Experience with intricacies of laboratory quality control program. required
1-3 years Experience in laboratory working with point of care testing required
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Plans and schedules POC activities for hospital as needed
Point of care analyzer troubleshooting and vendor interaction as needed
Reviews patient test results
Assures that all licensing and accreditation requirements are in full compliance.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills and ability to work closely and effectively with other hospital departments and their respective leaders.
Time management and organizational skills.
Knowledge and understanding of medical terminology
Strong critical thinking skills
Computer Competency
Licenses and Certifications
- MLS - Medical Lab Scientist (Formally MT Certification) ASCP, AMT, AAB or equivalent required or
