Role Overview:
You will perform or direct the installation, repair, planning, organization, and preventive maintenance of buildings, equipment, and grounds at the Fort Wayne Air National Guard Base. You must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret Federal Security Clearance Level.
Salary Statement:
The salary for this position traditionally starts at $39,000.00 but may be commensurate with education or work experience.
A Day in the Life:
The essential functions of this role are as follows:
Coordinate work of carpenters and laborers in construction and repairs.
Check materials to determine if they meet specifications.
Keep time, material and work records and orders materials and supplies.
Supervise alteration, repair, and general maintenance of buildings.
Perform and supervise hand and bench work in a carpenter shop and operates various hand and power tools.
Draw plans and sketches and estimates time and materials required.
Build, repair, alter and install window frames, door frames, inside walls, door and window screens, ceilings, countertops, cabinets, shelves and wood foundations.
Picks up, deliver, repair, and construct wheel chairs, hospital carts, orthopedic appliances and occupational therapy equipment.
Repair door locks and replaces worn out and broken parts of locks.
Hang garage doors, sliding doors and folding doors.
Install carpeting, linoleum, hardwood floors, tiles, sheet rock, metal siding, roofing, guttering systems and portable latrine facilities.

What You'll Need for Success:
You must meet the following requirements to be considered for employment:
Working knowledge of standard practices, processes, procedures, materials and tools of the carpentry trade.
Ability to plan, lay out and construct carpentry work of average difficulty from work orders, sketches and simple blueprints.
Ability to skillfully use a variety of hand and power tools, shop woodworking equipment and standard measuring instruments such as planers, routers, radial arm saws, carpenter’s square and levels.
Working knowledge of different woods and the effect of climatic conditions on building materials.
Working knowledge of concrete trade, roofing trade and plastering trade.
Ability to organize and coordinate the work of others.
Effective communication skills.
Supervisory Responsibilities/Direct Reports:
This role may serve as a team lead for an assigned work group.
