Parkview North Hospital Diabetes Care & Educ Spec RDN in Fort Wayne, Indiana

Summary

The Diabetes Care & Education Specialist (DCES) is responsible for inpatient and outpatient education for diabetic patients within the Standard of Care set by Parkview Health System and Indiana Nurse Practice Act. Delivers comprehensive and seamless services that bridge the gap and integrate clinical and self-management aspects of diabetes and cardiometabolic care. Is an integral part of the interprofessional team and provides collaborative, comprehensive and person-centered care, and education conducive to behavior change and improved quality of life across the lifespan. Supports and advocates for people affected by diabetes to optimize quality care. The DCES promotes self-management to achieve individualized behavioral and treatment goals that reduce risks and optimize health outcomes.

Education

Bachelor's degree in Dietetics or Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (AND) accepted equivalence. Completed internship approved by the AND. Master's degree in Dietetics preferred (required beginning January 1, 2024 for new RDNs).

Licensure/Certification

Registered Dietitian by the Commission on Dietetics Registration. Must also be licensed by the state of Indiana within 90 days of start date. Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist or Board Certified in Advanced Diabetes Management preferred. Current CPR certification.

Experience

5 years experience preferred working as an RDN in clinical setting.

Other Qualifications

Demonstrate excellent customer service, establishes priorities, and works independently. Must have good verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
