About You and this Role

Dowhas an exciting and challenging opportunity to be part ofFort Saskatchewan’s Path2Zero Programas aStatic Equipment Inspectorsupporting theFS2 Ethylene Cracking facility. This role will work closely with the FS2 Mechanical Integrity Commissioning & Start-up (C&SU) Lead and be part of Fixed Equipment team within FS2’s Maintenance C&SU Team.

In this role, you are expected to have an owner’s inspector mindset and the knowledge and ability to provide technical guidance and oversight to the inspections programs in Alberta. You will act as an Owner User Inspector for pressure vessels and piping, working under Dow’s Pressure Equipment Integrity Manual and Global Mechanical Integrity Safety Standard (GMISS), to ensure equipment quality and mechanical integrity. Additionally, you will work in a dynamic, team environment with support from both on-site and global technical resources.

The position will begin within the existing asset base as an Owner User Inspector within the Alberta Operations Maintenance Organization, will transition to the FS2 Static Equipment Inspector role in early 2026, and will become the FS2 Owner User Inspector after project completion. This position is located in Fort Saskatchewan.

Owner User Inspector Responsibilities:

  • Performs inspection activities as per procedures, dispositions and reports results for pressure and non-pressure equipment.

  • Maintains records of inspection for pressure equipment including input to the summary report for ABSA.

  • Acts as Owner’s Inspector for vessel and piping construction and for Owner User Program certified repairs; this includes reviewing and signing off contractor inspection reports.

  • Schedules equipment inspections and repairs with maintenance and turnaround coordinators.

  • Responsible for inspection activities and supervision of contract inspection personnel.

  • Monitors process conditions and ensures that inspection requirements are adjusted as required to accommodate process changes.

  • Ensures contract organizations supplying services on pressure equipment have the required authority and approvals to perform the work.

  • Ensures regulatory inspections are scheduled and completed within the approved timelines and intervals; ensures deferrals are in place and approved if unable to meet these deadlines.

  • Provides technical subject matter expertise on both routine and non-routine pressure and non-pressure equipment failures and degradation.

    FS2 Static Equipment Inspector Responsibilities:

  • Be part of Maintenance C&SU Fixed Equipment team and conduct C&SU activities of fixed equipment working under direction of FS2 GMISS C&SU Lead.

  • Support in coordination with Construction and Site Valve Shop for Relief Device quality inspection per Dow’s PSV handling procedures.

  • Perform baseline thickness measurement for equipment registered with ABSA as per Dow’s Pressure Equipment Integrity Manual.

  • Perform Initial Installation Inspection of ABSA & GMISS Vessels, Piping, and Relief Devices and document on inspection forms.

  • Perform commissioning activities of spring supports and complete spring support inspection checklists.

  • Support in completing ABSA & GMISS registration forms.

  • Support in collecting required equipment documentation from Engineering and Construction.

  • Support in Equipment Preservation Plan by field auditing fixed equipment scope.

  • Support in development of equipment Gasket & Bolting Reference Sheets.

Qualifications

  • API 510 and/or 570 Certification.

  • Must currently possess an ABSA In-Service Pressure Piping and Pressure Vessel Certificate of Competency or willing & able to obtain within 1 year of hire.

  • CGSB / SNT Level 1 in UT Certification.

  • A minimum 5 years of relevant working experience.

  • Ability to safely work in a plant environment, meet physical demands, work at elevated heights, and comfortably use PPE and safety equipment. Must be familiar with or open to training on proper equipment usage.

  • A minimum requirement for this position is the ability to work legally in Canada. No visa sponsorship/support is available for this position, including any type of permanent residency support.

Preferred Skills

  • Mechanical, Material, or Welding Technologist Graduate of a recognized Two Year Technical Institute Program.

  • National Board In-service Inspector Commission Certification covering inspection of Boilers.

  • CGSB / SNT Level I or II in UT, RT, PT, and/or MT.

  • API 653, 580 Certification.

  • Technical / Engineering Drawings - Read and interpret drawings to evaluate inspection plans and execute strategies.

  • Detail-Oriented - Pick up on small discrepancies during visual inspection and in turnover documentation to ensure equipment meets regulatory codes and standards.

  • Proactive Problem Solving - Focus on preventing potential issues before they become problems and target root causes when implementing solutions.

  • Communication - Use written and verbal communication skills to update maintenance, operations, and engineering groups effectively and solicit support and feedback on inspection results.
