Summary About the Position: Provides maintenance and repair for a variety of complex electrical and electronic equipment; troubleshoots, tests, modifies, repairs, and overhauls malfunctioning or non-functioning equipment for one or more of the U.S. Army training ranges in Alaska. Responsibilities Performs a wide range of duties involving the troubleshooting hardwired testing, repair, overhaul, modification, inspection, and general maintenance of electrical equipment used on one or more of the U.S. Army ranges throughout Alaska. Tests for and diagnoses malfunctions using test equipment. Performs a variety of duties in support of Range Control Stations. Assists with other range maintenance, such as performing limited carpentry work on firing ranges. Ability To Do The Work Of The Position Without More Than Normal Supervision Ability To Use and Maintain Hand Tools (Electrical Work) Ability To Use Electrical Drawings Knowledge of Electrical Equipment Technical Practices (theoretical, precise, artistic) Trouble shooting (electrical) PHYSICAL EFFORT: Frequently lifts and carries tools, equipment and parts weighing up to 40 pounds. Occasionally, the incumbent will have to lift heavier items with assistance. The work requires bending, stooping, and working in cramped positions. Walking with using units of up to 1000 meters over rough terrain during all weather conditions while wearing Kevlar helmets and body armor and carrying a portable transmitter device and battery pack. WORKING CONDITIONS: Works around and with electrical power supplies from 12-volt dc, 120-vac to 480-vac, 3-phase high voltage current. Exposed to electrical shock may cause death or serious injury. Works inside and outside during all types of weather conditions. Stands on concrete floors and works on ranges in rough terrain. Exposed to dangers of live fire ranges, pyrotechnics, laser frequencies and explosives. May be exposed to sulfuric acid when handling batteries used in operating remotely controlled target devices. Is exposed to the possibility of abrasions, cuts bums and falls from 50-foot towers. Hearing protective devices, safety glasses or goggles, kevlar helmets, body armor and other safety equipment and devices are issued or available for use. Education Additional Information Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration. You will be required to provide proof of U.S. Citizenship. One year trial/probationary period may be required. Direct deposit of pay is required.
