Matrix Service Journeyman Crane Operator in Fort McMurray, Alberta
Description
Job Summary:
Responsible for operating mobile hydraulic cranes with lifting capacities over 50 ton at locations where maneuverability is restricted, and accuracy is critical.
The schedule is 10 days, 4 days off, 10-hour days with a possibility of moving to 12-hour days. Please keep in mind, travel to site is always Mondays to start Tuesdays and travel home is either AFTER working a full day on the following Thursday OR you can opt to stay in camp for an additional night and travel home on the Friday morning
Camp accommodations with $250 travel up at the beginning of the job and $250 travel home at the very end of the job.
Bussing is available from camp to job site and vice versa
You are responsible for getting to site and home on your own
Must be available to start January 20th; duration will be 2-3 months
Must be able to successfully pass a D&A screen (condition of employment) prior to being hired
Essential Functions:

Makes precise load placements where exact movements are necessary, to position the load accurately and safely.
Performs loading and unloading of equipment and supplies, where masts, antennas, and other obstructions exist.
Precision positioning of equipment, lifting heavy machinery and components.
Cross trains in other positions, and performs other related duties as assigned
Will work in a cab and use pilot operated joystick controls, pedals, levers, and buttons to lift, move, and position loads using hoisting attachments, such as hooks, slings, electromagnets, and buckets.
Operators will observe load hookup and determine safety of load and inspect and report on crane and hoisting mechanism.
Crane operators must be always careful and attentive so they can follow directions closely as they will communicate with team members both verbally and by signal instruction.
Identify safety hazards you or other employees may be subject to and take all necessary corrective action to eliminate or minimize hazards.
Perform all other job-related duties as requested by supervision.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Journeyman Crane Operator ticket required from an accredited apprenticeship board.
General knowledge of basic hand tools.
Must be able to pass equipment test and visual observation of operating equipment.
Qualifications:
Storage tanks experience an asset.
Site requires fire retardant clothing.
Maintain clean shaven and/or free of facial hair so that a respirator/face mask can seal properly. (Site Specific)
Must be willing to travel for work
Must be willing to work frequent overtime.
CSTS 2020, ESC Confined Space, Common Safety Orientation (CSO), North 7700 half mask and APR are required for site.
Experience working at Suncor/Syncrude an asset.
Physical Requirements:
Must be able to perform tasks at heights.
Work may include pushing, pulling, lifting, or carrying objects weighing up to 50 pounds, such as raw or fabricated material, equipment, or tools.
Must be able to kneel, squat, and climb.
Work will include frequent bending, kneeling, crouching, and stooping and occasional climbing onto equipment and/or trailers.
Work involves standing and/or walking for extended periods of time, up to a minimum of 8-10 hours per day.
Must be able to perform tasks in hot and cold temperatures.
