Position summary: Exciting opportunity for an early career engineer to join JMT’s water/wastewater consultant engineering team in our Fort Lauderdale, FL office. We are looking for an enthusiastic, highly motivated individual interested in working on a broad range of water/wastewater infrastructure projects, particularly those involving rehabilitation and replacement of water/wastewater pipelines and pump stations. At JMT, our water/wastewater practice is among one of our fastest growing practices within the firm. Much of this success comes from our One JMT philosophy, which emphasizes collaboration, driving work sharing across our offices. As such, this individual will have the opportunity to work with staff in many of our offices, supporting projects for clients from throughout the country

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

  • Work directly with senior engineers as part of multi-disciplinary teams to prepare designs and develop construction plans and specifications, as well as to assemble construction contracts for various water/wastewater infrastructure projects

  • Work on engineering planning and design projects, and the preparation and development of technical evaluation memoranda, reports and other electronic deliverables

  • Data entry and analysis

  • Prepare cost estimates for various water/wastewater projects

  • Permitting

  • Prepare engineering drawings using 3D design tools

  • Participate actively in a relevant professional organization

Required Skills

  • Possess a strong understanding of fundamental engineering principles, as well as a basic proficiency in math, statistics, and technical writing as applied in the practice of engineering.

  • Demonstrate familiarity with hydraulic designs, water and wastewater pipeline design, as well as preparation of various deliverables for water/wastewater projects.

  • Have strong computer skills and adept at using the range of Microsoft 365 applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) as well as have a basic familiarity with various engineering design applications (e.g. AutoCAD, Civil 3D, ArcGIS, REVIT, and/or Microstation).

  • Possess flexibility to accommodate varying schedules from time to time as needed to provide time-critical support and meet demanding project schedules.

Required Experience

  • A bachelor’s degree in civil, environmental, mechanical, or chemical engineering (civil or environmental , preferred)

  • 0 – 5 years of directly-relevant experience in water and wastewater engineering

  • Passing or having the ability to pass the Fundamentals of Engineering exam

Qualifications Preferred

  • Prior internship involving related water/wastewater experience

  • Engineer in Training certification

  • Understanding of fundamental concepts of water/wastewater hydraulic calculations and modeling, including familiarity with water/wastewater modeling software (e.g. WaterGEMS, InfoWater, InfoWorks ICM, InfoSWMM)

  • Active membership and participation in local professional organizations

    Working Conditions

Work is performed within a general office environment 95% of the time. Work is generally sedentary in nature, but may require occasional standing and walking. Lighting and temperature are adequate and there are no hazardous or unpleasant conditions caused by noise, dust, etc. within the office environment.

Field work is required on occasion where work may be conducted outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions. Some lifting (up to 25 lbs) may be required as needed.
