U.S. Army Training and Doctrine Command Foreign Language Teacher - Persian Farsi (Associate Professor) in Fort Huachuca, Arizona

Summary About the Position: Serves as a Foreign Language Teacher - Persian Farsi (Associate Professor) for the Intermediate and Advanced (INT/ADV) Programs, in LREC-Operational Programs School, Continuing Education (CE) Directorate, Defense Language Institute Foreign Language Center (DLIFLC), teaching over 13 languages on a schedule extending throughout the year. Courses are taught six hours per day, five days a week, with the exception of federal holidays and training holidays. Responsibilities Teach post-basic courses focusing on increasing linguistic and socio-cultural and competence skills. Preparing for instruction, developing, and revising teaching materials, assessing student performance, diagnostic teaching, providing feedback on both in-class and homework assignments, and counseling students. Works in concert with other faculty and staff. Embraces and exemplifies teamwork and professionalism. Incumbent must demonstrate a solid knowledge in theories, methods, and techniques in foreign language teaching, testing and curriculum development. Faculty members are expected to stay abreast of current foreign language teaching theories and methods. Faculty members employ resources such as Smart Boards, the Internet, iPads, and Tablet PCs. Teachers integrate technology in the classroom and in homework assignments. Faculty members teach listening, reading, writing, and speaking skills, as well as geopolitical, economic and social issues, in an immersion-based environment. Defense Language Institute Foreign Language Center offers an intensive student-centered environment with diverse opportunities for faculty development. Teachers employ computer skills to organize data and teaching materials. Expertise in a learner-centered, proficiency-oriented approach, using appropriate real-world, higher-level proficiency activities and FLO-related tasks. The initial appointment is not to exceed (NTE) 36 months, and may be extended upon mission, funding, and management discretion. POSITION WILL BE FILLED AT ONE RANK: AD-1701-05 Associate Professor In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant work experience and education level (degree and year awarded); official transcripts/foreign transcript evaluation will be requested upon selection. Additional information about transcripts is in this document. Must be able to speak, read and write in Persian Farsi fluently. Must be able to speak, read and write in English fluently. Associate Professor: Ph.D. or master's degree in Second Language Acquisition, Foreign Language Education, Teaching English as a Second/Foreign Language (TESOL/TEFL), Linguistics, Language (English included), Literature, Education, Educational Psychology, Educational Technology, Translation & Interpretation, Cross-Cultural Studies, or Educational Administration. AND: At least four years of relevant professional expertise or experience and demonstrate significant contributions to a program or the field in two or more of the seven following core areas: teaching, curriculum, development, faculty development, testing, program management, research and evaluation, academic program support. If selected, applicant must pass a language proficiency test (OPI). LANGUAGE EVALUATION: The minimum English proficiency is a Level 2 in speaking. The minimum proficiency for one additional language to be taught is a Level 3 in speaking. The proficiency levels are defined by the Inter-agency Language Round table (ILR) level descriptions and can be viewed at http://www.govtilr.org. Failure of any portion of the language tests will disqualify applicants for a period of 6 months. Applicants may re-apply against an open vacancy announcement after 6 months if they wish to be considered again. If selected again, retesting is allowed only once. You must submit a 300-word HANDWRITTEN essay in Persian Farsi. You must also include a 300-word HANDWRITTEN English translation of the essay. Essay topic is how your background, education and training has prepared you to be a foreign language teacher. NOTE: Typed essays are NOT acceptable. The essay is not used to evaluate work experience, only for the purpose of evaluating the language writing proficiency. Please provide, at a minimum, three professional references with your application packet.
