Job Purpose and Impact

The Project Engineer I will plan, support, and execute capital project engineering deliverables at our Fort Dodge, IA bio-refinery campus. The Fort Dodge site is part of Cargill's corn milling and texturizing solutions business, and includes 5 different departments from corn milling to ethanol. The Project Engineer I will primarily be focused on low rigor projects from design to startup, while overseeing constructions management, considering safety, schedule efficiency, cost management and documentation. This professional will actively develop and apply engineering standards, project management procedures, and provide advice on issues within their engineering scope.

Key Accountabilities

• Lead the development of capital project scope, schedule, and budget while following project management deliverables and best practices.

• Coordinate staffing and development of construction, commissioning and start-up plans and assists operations in troubleshooting and optimization activities.

• Perform process engineering for individual projects as needed to meet project objectives.

• Lead equipment specification and procurement, and develop, review and award bid packages for equipment and labor.

• Analyze and develop solutions to engineering problems related to manufacturing equipment and systems, or the causes of component failures.

• Design and improve manufacturing processes, instruments and equipment, and test manufactured products to maintain quality.

• Independently handle complex issues with minimal supervision, while escalating only the most complex issues to appropriate staff.

• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent experience

  • Minimum of one year of related work experience

  • Other minimum qualifications may apply

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Chemical, Ag/Biosystems or related Engineering degree

• Demonstrated ability to execute projects from phase 1 to 5 with total project cost up to $250k

• Previous experience in chemical, food or related industry

• Ability and desire to travel domestically to other network plants and locations to support capital project work (<10%)

• Ability and desire to work hands on in fast-paced and technical plant environment
