Description of Work Unit

Founded in 1870, Colorado State University is among the nation’s leading research universities and enrolls approximately 32,000 undergraduate, graduate, and professional students. The Colorado State University Department of Athletics sponsors 16 men’s and women’s intercollegiate sports and competes as a member of the NCAA Division I- FBS . The University is a current member of the Mountain West Conference and future member of the Pac-12 Conference. The University is located in Fort Collins, Colorado, 65 miles north of Denver. Position Summary

The Senior Associate Athletic Director for Development provides senior leadership, management, strategic planning, and oversight of its fundraising operations for the CSU Department of Athletics in the areas of philanthropy, development, and major gifts. Employee is responsible for planning and executing a comprehensive strategy to promote and optimize financial support on local, regional, and national levels for CSU Athletics and its 16 NCAA Division I intercollegiate athletics programs.

Required Job Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in communications, sports management, business, marketing, management, liberal arts, sociology, public relations or any other field related to duties and responsibilities.

  • Minimum of five years of progressive fund-raising/development experience with a proven record of success in identifying, cultivating, soliciting and stewarding special or major gifts from individuals, corporations and foundations.

  • Demonstrated skill in developing and attaining fundraising goals.

  • Experience with hiring, leading, and motivating a staff of highly qualified and specialized individuals.

  • Demonstrated ability to work successfully with internal and external constituencies.

  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.

  • Previous development or fundraising experience in intercollegiate athletics.

  • Demonstrate a continuous high level of initiative, creativity and energy.

  • Ability to work autonomously, prioritize projects and duties; assign responsibilities; meet deadlines; and deliver results.

  • Knowledge of appropriate NCAA rules and regulations and a commitment to conduct all activities in compliance with NCAA , conference, and Colorado State University rules and regulations.

  • Ability to act responsibly and ethically within the parameters of institutional control.

  • Must have a valid driver’s license or the ability to obtain a driver’s license or access to a licensed driver by the employment start date

Preferred Job Qualifications

  • Previous experience in NCAA Division I FBS .

  • Experience with fundraising for major and complex capital projects including major facilities.

  • Demonstrated knowledge with current and anticipated financial changes in NCAA landscape.

  • Experience with software programs utilized by athletics development offices such as Salesforce.

  • Provide senior leadership, management, strategic planning and oversight for the fundraising operations of the Department.

  • Work with Director of Athletics, Athletics executive leadership, and other internal constituents to develop and implement a strategic development plan for the department.

  • Maximize philanthropic giving through individual, corporate and foundation giving as well as estate and deferred giving.

  • Plan and execute a comprehensive strategy to promote and optimize philanthropic support on local, regional and national levels.

  • Promote major gift opportunities aligned with the priorities and strategic plan identified by the Department of Athletics.

  • Serve as a member of the Department’s Executive Leadership team.

  • Oversee the budget for the Athletics Development unit.

  • Serve as the sports administrator for Div. I intercollegiate sports program(s) as assigned, working closely with head coach, staff and student-athletes in the overall oversight and development of the program.

  • Be knowledgeable of NCAA and conference rules and regulations, promptly report any knowledge of rules violations, and contribute proactively to the Department’s culture of compliance.

  • Manage a major gift donors/prospects portfolio for the purpose of developing leadership giving and providing private support to fund capital priorities and endowments.

  • Design and manage annual and capital campaigns.

  • Work closely and collaboratively with the Athletic Marketing and Ticket Offices in executing an annual premium and priority seating program.

  • Recruit, hire, train, lead, motivate, and evaluate highly qualified staff to achieve measurable fundraising goals.

  • Ensure and maintain, with assistance from staff, that Athletics Development unit is an inclusive environment.

  • Work closely with all 16-varsity sports in enhancing their sports giving and alumni/booster clubs.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Ensure that all gifts are processed according to CSU Foundation policy and that donors are appropriately recognized and stewarded

  • Collaborate with University Advancement in all areas of development, including planned gift arrangements that require tax or estate planning

  • Work closely with University Advancement to ensure cooperation with other development professionals throughout the University

  • Collaborate on the management of any re-seating/indexing of current and future venues for the department

  • Cultivate and maintain effective relationships with former athletes, boosters, alumni, business and community leaders and other constituent groups.

  • Develop and execute strategic vision for donor cultivation and fundraising for direct student-athlete support as permitted by the NCAA .

  • Cultivate and maintain effective relationships with former CSU student-athletes, donors, alumni, and business and community leaders for the purpose of direct student-athlete support.
