Platte River Power Authority CAD Technician in Fort Collins, Colorado
Job summary
The CAD technician interprets verbal, written, or graphical instructions and efficiently turns instructions into accurate drawings by preparing engineering drawings for high voltage substations.
This position is based at Platte River's headquarters campus in Fort Collins and works a typical work-week schedule supporting the CAD designer and the system engineers' drafting needs. Essential duties
Models the mission, vision, values, and culture of the organization. Responsible for producing drawings using AutoCAD software to revise and create electrical substation equipment layouts, plan and profile drawings, sections, foundation plans, conduit plans, grounding plans, related details, one-line diagrams, schematics, wiring diagrams, and panel elevation drawings that meet industry and organizational quality standards. Efficiently revises and creates accurate drawings for redlined drawings, verbal, and written instructions, marked prints, sketches, calculations, and other sources. Reviews rough sketches, drawings, specifications, and other engineering data to ensure that it conforms to design concepts. Designs and drafts work with a high level of completeness, accuracy, consistency, efficiency, and quality. Consistently follows internal or external codes, standards, and guides. Evaluates drawing files against CAD standards. Examines paper prints against markups and standards to ensure meeting specifications. Utilizes document management system to modify drawings efficiently and accurately. Provides support converting older documentation to electronic formats. Works at substation facilities with engineering and maintenance staff to update drawings, install labels, operating engraving equipment, and plotters/scanners. Performs other duties as assigned.
Key skills and abilities
Proficient in the latest AutoCAD release. Expertise in reading, analyzing, and interpreting technical documents, including electrical wire colors and colored drawings. Highly organized and detail-oriented, with a strong focus on accuracy. Advanced technical competence with software and hardware. Capable of maintaining high productivity levels and managing multiple projects and competing priorities. Strong communication and project coordination skills.
Candidates must have:
A high school diploma or GED. Valid driver's license and ability to remain insurable under the vehicle liability policy. 3 years in AutoCAD focused position (completion of an Associate's degree in CAD/CADD, drafting, or engineering technology may be considered as an equivalent to this experience requirement).
Preferred skills and experience:
Proficiency with 3D design software. GIS experience. Experience drafting in the electric utility industry.
Pay
The is a salaried, non-exempt position; wages are paid bi-weekly. Factors that may be used to determine actual wages include specific skills, years of experience, education and certifications.
Full pay range: $80,768 to $109,048 if annualized. Hiring range: $80,768 to $95,015 if annualized.
