Department of Defense Education Activity School Information Assistant (Office Automation) in Fort Buchanan, Puerto Rico

Summary About the Position: This position is located at Fort Buchanan, Puerto Rico. It is located by Guaynabo City, Puerto Rico. It is near the capital of San Juan. Puerto Rico boasts fabulous ocean views, tropical weather, and lush green mountains. The island is approximately 100 miles by 35 miles and similar in size to Connecticut. Federal employees in Fort Buchanan, Puerto Rico may be entitled to receive a 2.63% Cost of Living Allowance (COLA) in addition to the base salary. (% is subject to change) Responsibilities Perform a variety of school administrative functions such as student registration, student attendance, academic records maintenance, tuition status, and other related processes Receive data and enter into the student information management database. Responsible for new student registration. Assembles and distributes to family’s student registration packets including a student schedule and handbook, regulations, a health record form, and other forms that might be required. Prepare a variety of letters, messages, memoranda, reports, charts, school bulletins, and other correspondence using typing and automated word processing equipment and other various software programs. Work in coordination with the administration to construct in the student information management system a viable school master schedule for teachers, e.g., times for preparation periods, lunch times, classroom teaching, etc. Implement data collection techniques for collecting and electronically transferring student grades. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized experience for GS-06: One year of specialized experience which includes: performing administrative functions such as student registration, attendance tracking, tuition status, maintaining an electronic database, ect.; and preparing electronic office correspondence. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05). This position requires a qualified typist. A qualified typist can type 40 words per minute based on a 5 minute sample with three or fewer errors. Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-05). If you are a current, Federal employee, you must include your pay plan, series and grade in your work experience(s) on your resume submission and/or upload supporting documentation (within-grade increase SF50) to show that you meet the time-in-grade requirement. In addition, if your step reflects '00', you must include your current salary for each position. Education Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted. Additional Information Selection is subject to restrictions resulting from Department of Defense referral system for displaced employees.
