Queens Community House Housing Specialist in Forest Hills, New York

Position Overview:

We are seeking a qualified and client-focused Housing Specialist to join our Neighborhood Preservation Program, supporting our Eviction Prevention Program. This role plays a vital part in assisting low-income families with the resources they need to achieve housing stability. The Housing Specialist will help clients identify necessary supports, provide assistance with applications, offer housing education, and facilitate workshops, as well as conduct community outreach.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Interpret and apply housing policies, procedures, and regulations according to federal, state, and local laws.

  • Manage housing assistance caseloads to ensure timely service delivery, including intake assessments and facilitating "Know Your Rights" workshops.

  • Conduct community outreach and serve as a liaison to landlords, service agencies, and community organizations.

  • Deliver integrated case management services aimed at addressing complex housing challenges, and assist clients in developing actionable housing plans.

  • Provide application assistance for housing programs and process requests for support in a timely manner.

  • Track and document program milestones, inputs, and outcomes in Salesforce and HMIS systems.

  • Facilitate monthly workshops, webinars, and community events on relevant housing topics.

  • Establish and maintain professional relationships with landlords, community organizations, and other stakeholders.

  • Negotiate housing contracts and provide mediation between participants and landlords as needed.

  • Participate in staff meetings, training sessions, and professional development activities.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Human Services, Urban Studies, or a related field is preferred.

  • Minimum of two years of experience in client services, housing assistance, or a related field.

  • Strong knowledge of NYC housing regulations, eviction prevention practices, and case management principles.

  • Bilingual in English and Spanish is required.

  • Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.

  • Proficiency with database systems such as Salesforce and experience in managing social media platforms.

  • Ability to conduct virtual meetings and provide remote counseling services.

  • Strong attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining confidentiality.
