Job Summary
The MRI Technologist I performs routine scanning procedures for the MRI department. Ensures patient safety and comfort during procedures and ensures a high quality of images produced. Responsible for availability and sterility of supplies used for assigned area.
Essential Functions
Communicates effectively. Establishes and maintains two way communication with peers, staff, physicians, leaders and administration.
Consistently uses skilled communication which demonstrates congruence between words and actions and holds others accountable for doing the same.
Reviews all MRI patient questionnaires prior to procedure.
Reviews patient history of previous surgeries for possible implants or metal in body (i.e. foreign body in eyes, etc).
Uses equipment safely, adhering to policy, guidelines and/or protocols set by the hospital and department.
Familiar and researches types of implant materials to determine if safe in MRI scan room and ensures recent surgery is longer than six weeks prior to exam.
Operates all MRI and processing equipment correctly and produces quality images and accurate information while working independently.
Reviews all MRI patient questionnaires prior to scanning, verify MD order, and properly identifies patient.
Thoroughly explains procedure to patient; alleviates fear and anxiety; answers questions clearly and completely. Provides instructions during and after exam.
Maintains MRI safety zones for staff, patients, and visitors.
Maintains an inventory of MRI supplies and equipment.
Ensures images meet quality standards.
Ensures patient clinical history is available and accurate to correlate with exam and documents and sends appropriate documents to radiologist in PACS.
Provides appropriate instruction and evaluation of students.
Assists with orientation and training of new employees.
Demonstrates a consistent and well organized approach in completing all required quality control monitoring for assigned area.
Accurately collects improvement performance data as directed and participates in development and implementation of process improvements.
Ensures that all procedures are properly ordered, verified and acknowledged.
Adheres to positioning guidelines and department expectations and removes or repositions objects which could cause artifacts on images.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Complies with all policies and standards.
Qualifications
Associate Degree graduate of an accredited program in Radiologic Technology required
Associate Degree graduate of an accredited program in Radiologic Technology with MRI registry preferred
1-2 years Clinical experience as a Radiologic Technologist required
1-3 years Clinical experience as a registered MRI Technologist preferred
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Ability to analyze, organize and prioritize work accurately while meeting multiple deadlines
Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form
Ability to handle difficult and stressful situations with critical thinking and professional composure
Excellent interpersonal skills with ability to interact effectively with patients, families, healthcare professionals and external vendors
Ability to operate and understand radiographic technology and equipment/applications
Basic computer skills
Ability to demonstrate ethical and professional behaviors at all times
Ability to maintain patient confidentiality and privacy and comply with all HIPPA requirements
Ability to use initiative and independent judgment
Ability to properly position patients to provide quality imaging.
Ability to work independently
Complete understanding of MRI applications and MRI safety
Ability to operate equipment
Knowledge of current medical terminology
Knowledge of MRI imaging techniques
Knowledge of imaging equipment and testing to perform quality control checks and troubleshooting of instrumentation
Ability to multi-task efficiently and effectively
Licenses and Certifications
ARRT - American Registry of Radiologic Technologists required
Licensed Radiologic Technologist As required by state required
BCLS - Basic Life Support required
(MR) ARDMS or ARRT - Magnetic Resonance preferred
