Job Summary
The Creative Destruction Studio at College of Innovation & Technology is looking for a detail-oriented Research Laboratory Specialist to support the latest research and innovation projects focused on technology commercialization. The Research Laboratory Specialist will help support interdisciplinary research teams, facilitating the transition of research from concept to market-ready technologies.
We offer a unique opportunity to work with faculty, industry partners, and students on projects that inspire creativity in areas such as sustainability, advanced materials and the latest technologies. The Research Laboratory Specialist will contribute to the development of new technologies, help complete research activities, and help with the overall operations of the lab.
You will report to Dr. Edward Kim.
Responsibilities*
Help with the planning, execution, and analysis of interdisciplinary research projects within the studio. This includes data collection, literature reviews, experiment design, and the preparation of research reports and presentations.
Collaborate with faculty and industry partners on the development and prototyping of new technologies, ensuring the understanding of commercialization goals.
Help coordinate multiple projects, ensuring that timelines are met, resources are effectively used, and deliverables are of high quality.
Provide technical assistance with lab equipment, software, and other research tools, ensuring a smooth operation and troubleshooting any issues that arise.
Maintain accurate records of research activities, prepare documentation for project meetings, and assist in the preparation of grant proposals and progress reports.
Work with the Studio Director, faculty members, industry partners, and other research assistants to foster a collaborative research environment.
Required Qualifications*
Bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as engineering, computer science, material science, or a related discipline.
5 or more years of research lab experience
Proficiency in relevant software and tools (e.g., CAD, programming languages, data analysis software).

Modes of Work
Onsite
The work requires, or the supervisor approves a fully onsite presence. Onsite is defined as a designated U-M owned or leased work location within or outside of the State of Michigan.
