Job Summary
Conferences & Events has an immediate opening for a Conference & Events Program Manager. This position will report to the University Events Manager. The Conference & Events Program Manager is responsible for event reservation scheduling, event planning and logistics, event setup and teardown, audio visual, bar service, coordination of services with other university departments and on-site event management.
Working some nights and weekends is required.
Responsibilities*
Manage Events at UM-Flint
Computerized scheduling of events, pre-event planning, pricing, on-site event management, setup/takedown
Prepare event diagrams for clients and event staff
Effectively communicate and enforce university policies
Inspect building facilities and equipment, process work orders and follow up
Provide problem resolution and customer service with facility users
Coordinate services with other departments and vendors, including Safety, Facilities, IT, NBC Administration and others
Complete accurate and thorough facilities reports
Serve on a variety of campus and community committees as needed
On-site event management required on some evenings and weekends
Supervise bar service events
Make recommendations on policies and pricing
Functionally supervise Event Staff, Office Assistant, Bartender positions.
Student Staff Supervision
Hire, schedule, train, supervise and evaluate student Evening Supervisor
Develop training materials and implement training program for student and professional staff
Prepare work assignments for student Evening Supervisor
Audio/Visual
Determine the Audio/Visual needs for events.
Train staff on Audio/Visual equipment
Manage equipment setup, operation of equipment during the event and equipment teardown after the event
Make recommendations for current and future audio/visual equipment purchases
Equipment Maintenance
Maintain all departmental equipment, ensuring that it is in good working condition
Maintain inventory of all departmental equipment
Make recommendations for current and future equipment purchases
Maintain supply inventory and make supply orders as needed (i.e. cleaning supplies, linen rentals, maintenance supplies, trash can liners, etc.)
Other Duties as assigned
Required Qualifications*
Associate's degree or equivalent combination of relevant education and/or experience.
One or more years of experience in event planning
Essential Job Functions
- Must be able to lift equipment weighing up to 50 pounds for various event needs with or without reasonable accommodations.

Modes of Work
Onsite
The work requires, or the supervisor approves a fully onsite presence. Onsite is defined as a designated U-M owned or leased work location within or outside of the State of Michigan.
Positions that are eligible for hybrid or mobile/remote work mode are at the discretion of the hiring department. Work agreements are reviewed annually at a minimum and are subject to change at any time, and for any reason, throughout the course of employment.
