Job Posting: Manager of Laboratory Operations

Location: Flanders, NJ

Position Summary:

We are seeking a skilled and experienced Manager of Laboratory Operations to oversee the daily operations of the Radata Analytical Lab. This leadership role is critical for ensuring the highest standards in quality control, quality assurance, and quality improvement within the laboratory. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in laboratory management and a passion for maintaining effective department operations while ensuring high-quality service.

Essential Functions:

  • Lead and manage the day-to-day operations of the laboratory, ensuring efficient performance and adherence to established processes.

  • Ensure compliance with laboratory accreditation, regulatory standards, and information management policies. Provide leadership to staff and guide the development of quality policies, processes, and procedures.

  • Analyze data, monitor trends, and manage the prevention and correction of quality deviations. Provide reports and data insights to executive leadership.

  • Set and report on department goals for growth, focusing on continuous improvement and customer satisfaction.

  • Oversee internal audit processes, external assessments, proficiency testing programs, and other quality assurance activities.

  • Identify training needs and implement internal programs to strengthen the quality system and staff performance.

  • Design and document departmental procedures, ensuring clear communication between lab staff and stakeholders.

  • Recommend best practices to improve laboratory functions and project outcomes.

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • In-depth knowledge of accreditation standards, practices, and guidelines. Ability to advise and guide laboratory managers in maintaining accreditation.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to collaborate with diverse teams and present complex technical information.

  • Proficiency with computer and analytical software to interpret data and generate reports.

  • Expertise in laboratory techniques and principles related to various analytical areas.

  • Strong organizational skills to coordinate multiple quality assurance activities.

  • Ability to independently manage complex projects while fostering a team-oriented environment.

  • Ability to interpret scientific data, identify discrepancies, and recommend improvements.

  • Experience conducting audits and reviews to ensure compliance and implement corrective actions.

Physical Demands & Work Environment:

  • Primarily office-based with occasional work around laboratory machinery and heavy equipment.

  • Prolonged periods of sitting and working on a computer.

  • Ability to lift up to 20 pounds occasionally.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Oversee daily laboratory operations, resolve issues, and ensure effective processing.

  • Manage recruitment, hiring, and compliance with staff certifications and licenses.

  • Promote a positive work environment and support employee retention and communication.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a science-related field (required).

  • Advanced degree in business, organizational development, or scientific-related field (preferred).

  • Minimum of 5-10 years of progressive experience in laboratory operations, with at least 3-5 years in a managerial role.

  • Experience working with the NJ Department of Environmental Protection, Division of Science and Laboratory Research Program is highly desirable.

Travel Requirements:

Travel may be required on an as-needed basis.

Pay Details: $90,000.00 to $110,000.00 per year
