About the Department/College

The Institute for Human Development (IHD) is an interdisciplinary unit and the oldest Institute at NAU. IHD is housed in the College of Social and Behavioral Sciences on the campus of NAU in Flagstaff, Arizona. IHD is a University Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities (UCEDD) emphasizing four core function areas: Research and Evaluation, Interdisciplinary Education and Training, Community Service, and Information Dissemination.

The Special Education Learning Experiences for Competency in Teaching (SELECT) program falls under the Interdisciplinary Education and Training core function. It is one of three current academic programs along with the Disability Studies Minor and the Assistive Technology Graduate Certificate. SELECT courses are recommended for teachers, administrators, related-service personnel, paraeducators, and other interested individuals and offered through IHD but sponsored by the Arizona Department of Education (ADE).

About the Position

NAU SELECT Program requires qualified educators of students with disabilities who are skilled at designing and implementing curriculum for improving professional competency in special education. SELECT is searching for an expert in the content area of High-Leverage Practices for Students with Disabilities, particularly in the domain of \"Intensify and Intervene as Needed\". This position is a part-time faculty position not eligible for tenure or renewal.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Design and teach a 3-Credit course for NAU SELECT program in the content area of High-Leverage Practices for Students with Disabilities, particularly in the domain of \"Intensify and Intervene as Needed.

Additional Information

  • This position is subject to the availability of funding. The incumbent is not eligible for Service Professional non-renewal notice, or Classified Staff layoff or recall status.
  • This position is a remote position which allows the incumbent to complete their work at a location other than an NAU site, campus, or facility with or without accommodation. The incumbent may occasionally work in a shared site, but primarily will work elsewhere.
  • The course will be offered an average of once every three semesters (Fall, Spring, Summer).
  • This position is posted as Part-Time SELECT Instructor, which is a working title. The NAU system title for this position is Part-Time Temporary Instructor.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master\'s Degree in Special Education or related field.
  • 5+ years of experience working with students in Special Education.
  • Familiarity with online technology and best practices in instructional design.

Preferred Qualifications

2+ years of experience teaching and/or training educators who serve students with disabilities.

2+ years of experience supervising and/or mentoring educators who serve students with disabilities.

Familiarity with online technology and best practices in instructional design.

Experience teaching in higher education and/or experience teaching adult learners.
