The Director of Military and Veteran Services supervises veteran work study students and collaborates with university colleagues who support our military and veteran population. GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES: The Director of Veteran Services is responsible for leading and managing programs and services that support the academic and personal success of veterans, military personnel, and their families. The role requires effective collaboration across campus units to create a veteran-friendly environment and ensure that veterans receive the resources and advocacy they need to thrive. DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: School Certifying Official: Serves as a School Certifying Official (SCO) and liaison between the U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs (VA), Department of Defense (DoD) and Fitchburg State University. Leadership and Collaboration: Lead and collaboratively partner with other campus units to promote a veteran-friendly campus culture. Outreach and Recruitment: Initiate outreach efforts to recruit veterans and military-affiliated students, enhancing their access to university resources. Respond to inbound inquiries promptly, providing clear and accurate information. Develops and establishes relationships with area communities to promote the university. Admissions Support: Work closely with the Admissions Office to ensure that the application process for veteran and military-affiliated students is streamlined and accessible. Provide guidance on admission requirements and assist with documentation needed for VA benefits. Benefits and Compliance: Ensure eligible and prospective students are informed about their benefits, including the application process for VA work-study programs. Provide accurate information to the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs regarding the certification of students eligible for VA benefits. Tuition Management: Stay informed with tuition and fees requirements relevant to veteran students, and conduct assessments for tuition waivers to ensure compliance with applicable policies. Advocacy: Serve as the primary resource and advocate for veterans and active duty personnel regarding their academic concerns, addressing issues and collaborating with staff in other campus offices to implement process changes that increase effectiveness and student success. Program Development: Develop and administer programs to raise awareness of the unique needs of veteran and active military students, working to remove barriers to their success. Create and foster active veterans and military student organization, network and support groups. Additional Information: This is a full-time, benefited, exempt, professional APA position. The annual salary range for this position is \$75K - \$80K. Application deadline is January 3, 2025.
