AltaGas - Shift Supervisor, Ferndale Terminal
Position Summary
Are you an experienced Operations professional with a passion for the energy sector? AltaGas is seeking dynamic leaders to oversee the safe and environmentally compliant operations at our Ferndale Export Terminal. As the direct supervisor of one of our four shift teams, you’ll lead and develop a dedicated team of 7-8 operators, drive production targets, and manage incidents and emergencies. Reporting to the Terminal Operations Coordinator, you’ll be the ranking management representative during off-shifts, ensuring adherence to AltaGas policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.

What You'll Do:
Safety
Ensure a safe working environment and enforce safety protocols, procedures, and safe work practices by all team members.
Champion EHS excellence, recognize and stop unsafe work, and report safety hazards.
Leadership
Lead and direct the shift team to achieve terminal goals and objectives.
Mentor and train team members to enhance skills and knowledge, ensuring professional development.
Operations Management
Oversee and coordinate all terminal operations during the shift.
Understand and monitor terminal processes, lab results, target sheets, and operating limits, ensuring optimal performance and efficiency. Achieve daily production targets and KPIs, prompting action from the shift team to make adjustments when necessary.
Communication
Conduct start-of-shift and weekly safety meetings.
Collaborate with internal teams to achieve terminal-wide goals and business objectives.
Notify senior leadership, EHS team, regulatory agencies, emergency response, and other required contacts of terminal activity, as needed.
Document shift activities, process information, incidents, instructions, and other handover communications in the Shift Supervisor Log.
Problem-Solving
Aid the shift team in troubleshooting and resolving operational challenges.
Respond to incidents and emergencies, acting as the initial Incident Commander, and ensuring proper notifications are made.
Decision-Making
Ensure AltaGas' Core Values drive decision-making in all scenarios.
Make informed decisions regarding operations, maintenance, and safety.
Terminal & Pier Operations
Participate in interviewing, selecting, and training of employees.
Set and adjust employees’ hours of work.
Direct and plan the work of employees.
Maintain production records for use in supervision or control.
Appraise employee productivity and efficiency to recommend promotions or other status changes.
Manage employee complaints and grievances.
Determine the techniques to be used.
Apportion the work among the employees.
Control the flow and distribution of materials or merchandise and supplies.
Provide for the safety and security of the employees and the property.
Monitor and/or implement legal compliance measures.
What You Bring:
5+ years of experience in terminal, refinery, power generation, or similar operations or maintenance.
Strong leadership and communication skills; ability to collaborate with and influence others.
Ability to make informed decisions in high-pressure situations.
Ability to understand and comply with AltaGas policies and practices.
Experience with safety management, incident management, and emergency response.
Ability to develop proficiency with software programs and applications, including Office Suite, Maximo, Power BI, and others.
Ability to work rotating, 12-hour shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
Possess or can qualify for a Transportation Workers Identification Card (TWIC).
A valid driver's license with a clean driving abstract is required. Pre-employment background checks and substance screening are required.
Salary:
The base salary for this position will range from $123,760 - $156,516 per annum, with the potential for additional overtime allowances.
