The EMERGE program at Farmingdale State College will leverage strategies that have been proven to promote student success and currently seeks to hire a dedicated Wellness Success Coach for the College's Office of First Year/Transfer Year Experience (OFY/TYE). Reporting to the EMERGE Director and working collaboratively with the Associate Provost, academic departments, and various functional areas, these individuals will assist with the efforts to:

  • Provide students with intrusive advising and academic success coaching;

  • Foster learning support; and

  • Facilitate co-curricular and extra-curricular activities.

The Office of First Year/Transfer Year Experience will eventually serve an estimated 1500 first-time, full-time and 900 transfer students each year. Under the direction of the EMERGE Director, the Wellness Success Coach will provide supplemental oversight of program implementation. Key responsibilities will include:

  • Offer case management services to effectively assess the unique needs of traditionally underserved students and vulnerable populations

  • Provide coaching and support to address a variety of student goals such as managing stress and anxiety, building self-efficacy, enhancing sense of belonging, coping with financial hardship, etc.

  • Design and facilitate workshops to support the specific challenges of diverse student groups and communities

  • Develop programming to expand on the First-Year Experience course's Wellness and DEISJ modules including topics such as emotional intelligence, growth mindset, intersectionality, etc.

  • Develop programming and workshops to educate EMERGE program participants and campus community about mental health issues, resources, response, and advocacy

  • Generate educational workshops to address the impact of COVID-19 on students, educators, and faculty

  • Collaborate with EMERGE staff to identify effective student interventions

  • Ensure appropriate tracking of student records and progress

  • Collect, analyze, and present student data trends to EMERGE staff and campus personnel

  • Develop case-specific action plans for students who require additional support

  • Perform crisis intervention for students and coordinate appropriate referrals to swiftly link students to campus and community-based resources

  • Design and oversee the EMERGE Peer Mentoring program

  • Develop a comprehensive "Resource Guide" outlining campus and community supports specifically tailored for underserved college students

  • Work collaboratively with campus departments such as Financial Aid, Nexus Center, and academic offices to provide wraparound student services; serve as liaison to the Campus Mental Health Services department

  • Partner with FSC Faculty Center to provide evidence-based trainings on how to best support historically underserved students for faculty and staff

  • Assist with the planning and implementation of EMERGE special events

  • Support recruitment, screening, selection, and onboarding of students

  • Collaborate with Marketing and Communications to develop promotional materials, onboarding documents, and social media campaigns

  • Participate in team meetings, case conferences, department meetings, and trainings

  • Promote awareness of mental health issues and barriers that traditionally underserved students and communities experience

  • Adhere to and champion all ethical standards outlined by the National Organization for Human Services

  • Assist the EMERGE office with duties as assigned

    Job Requirements:

MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum of a Master's degree in Social Work, Psychology, Human Services, or a related field

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience working within a college-related setting supporting student development and success

  • Strong data management (i.e., student rosters, program engagement levels, etc.) skills

  • Excellent oral and written communication abilities

  • Ability to work occasional evenings and overnight travel for program events

  • Proficiency with social media platforms, Microsoft Office, and Google Suite

ADDITIONAL PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bilingual in Spanish

  • Creative, organized, and motivated individual passionate about student development

  • Adaptable and able to work with various constituents including college faculty, community stakeholders, etc.

    Additional Information:

This is a full-time Research Foundation position.
