Applications received in response to this announcement will be used fill substitute Special Education Program Assistant (SEPA) vacancies at the MN State Academy for the Blind.
Applicants submitting resumes to this announcement will be in a pool of candidates considered throughout the school year for substitute SEPA positions as they become available. Substitutes are called in on an as needed basis to fill behind absent staff. This position is not benefit eligible.
This position provides substitute paraprofessional academic classroom instruction or student management aide support at the Minnesota State Academy for the Blind.
- Under general supervision, contributes to the design and delivery of academic instructional programs to blind/visually impaired students. Provides educational instruction and uses a variety of techniques to encourage appropriate behaviors.
Minimum Qualifications
At least two years of college credits (usually 60 credits in Minnesota) through an accredited institution of higher education; or
An associate’s or higher degree; or
A passing score on a valid and reliable formal assessment (ParaPro Assessment) demonstrating the knowledge and ability to assist with instruction in reading/language, writing, mathematics or readiness for each.
Knowledge or experience working with students in an educational and/or dormitory setting as a caregiver.
Skill in writing basic reports, using arithmetic, and reading and interpreting charts and grafts.
Ability to read and write English sufficient to understand written policies, procedures, and education plans and to maintain records and documentation.
Human relations skills sufficient to establish rapport with and provide instruction to students.
Ability to perform emergency procedures and personal safety techniques.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience working with blind/visually impaired students in an educational setting.
Knowledge of data practices as it relates to work in the social/human services field.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds (with assistance) and to be able to sit, stand and walk throughout a workday.
