THE POSITION
Incumbents learn to performprofessional accounting duties in the preparation of financial reports and/orstatements, in the development, review and maintenance of a departmentsaccounting, cost, and/or other financial reporting systems that meet Federal,State and local requirements, in the collection and interpretation of financialinformation, and in the analysis of financial records; monitors departmentfinancial systems to identify problems, recommend changes and take correctiveaction to maintain integrity of the departments accounting systems.
Incumbents work under generalsupervision in applying professional accounting principles to facilitate fiscalcontrol, performing financial analysis and/or establishing fiscal accountingsystems within the department. Incumbents will perform technical tasks underdirection within a framework of established procedures, which require theapplication of accounting principles and practices.
Employees in this class areexpected to exercise sound professional judgment in the interpretation ofFederal, State, local and general accounting policies.
This class represents the entrylevel in the Accountant series. Some positions in this entry level class may bebudgeted at the journey level class. If the position is budgeted at that level,then the position is considered to be flexibly staffed. Employees may bepromoted from the entry level to the journey level without examination inflexibly-staffed classes.

Position Requirements
Experience:Noexperience necessary, however some prior work experience in bookkeeping oraccounting is desirable.
Education:A Bachelors degree or higher from an accredited collegeor university with a major in business administration, finance, accounting or aclosely related field, which must have included at least 12 semester or 18quarter units in Accounting and/or Auditing. Note: Possession of a Certified Public Accountant Certificate may besubstituted for the education requirement.
LICENSING, CERTIFICATION AND REGISTRATION REQUIREMENTS: Some positions in this class will require the applicant to possess a validCalifornia drivers license, Class C, by the time of appointment. Employees must keep th ir licenses, certifications and registrations currentand failure to do so may constitute cause for personnel action in accordancewith Civil Service Rules or applicable bargaining agreement.

Based on the information providedin the application documents, the qualified applicants may be invited forfurther examination and will either be pre-scheduled by the Department of HumanResources or be invited to self-schedule.
All applicants meeting theminimum qualifications are not guaranteed advancement through any subsequentphase of the examination. Depending upon the number of applicationsreceived, the selection process may consist of an initial applicationscreening, a mandatory information meeting, a supplemental questionnaireassessment, a written and/or practical exam, an oral board exam, or anycombination listed. Responses to supplemental questions may be used asscreening and testing mechanisms and will be used to assess an applicantsability to advance in the process; as such, responses to supplemental questionsshould be treated as test examination responses.
