Northrop Grumman Defense Systems (NGDS) is seeking Software Development Manager to join our diverse team of professionals located in Fairfax, VA. This position is an engineering management role within the Immersive Mission System Department and will report directly to the Software Section Manager. This position will require a split between technical and functional management duties.

Roles and Responsibilities:
Researches, designs, develops, and/or modifies enterprise-wide systems and/or applications software.
Involved in planning of system and development deployment as well as responsible for meeting software compliance standards.
Evaluates interface between hardware and software, operational requirements, and characteristics of overall system.
Documents testing and maintenance of system corrections.
Performs functional management duties to include but limited to:
Hold one-on-ones and staff meetings (at least monthly)
Conduct PQRB/promotion planning meeting with each direct report, make a plan for their external exposure, mentorship, and publications
Time entry – check that everyone enters their time at the end of each day periodically
Manage overtime, extended work week and non-applied time
Keep WLF and Redeployment tools up-to-date (weekly)
Goal planning
Complete compensation inputs
Basic Qualifications:
A Bachelor’s Degree in STEM with 5 years of software engineering experience OR Master's Degree in STEM with 3 years of software engineering experience
Exceptional leadership skills in order to coordinate collaboration across engineering teams
Demonstrated mastery in various competencies of Teaching, Mentoring, and Facilitation
Active DoD Secret Clearance
Preferred Qualifications:
Strong background in software development, testing, and troubleshooting
Prior experience in engineering functional management is a plus
Proven leadership qualities and strong interpersonal skills
Demonstrate exemplary professionalism and ability to maintain composure in stressful situations
Demonstrate strong team-building/collaboration skills
Demonstrated ability to build diverse/inclusive teams with engaged team members
Demonstrated mentoring and coaching skills, and excellent 2-way communication skills (upward and downward)
Previous experience leading a team of 5-12 employees with a record of on-time performance
Previous experience in developing proposal inputs (task descriptions and basis of estimate)
Time management and organizational skills to prioritize across concurrent program and functional responsibilities
Prior experience with using Atlassian tool suite
Salary Range: $129,900 - $194,900
The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.
Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
