Our work depends on a Cloud Cost Analyst / FinOps Analyst joining our team to work with the customer on optimizing their Cloud spend, including purchasing Reserved Instances and Savings Plans. You will also be the billing expert available for training customers on understanding Cloud usage and patterns and champion and advocate for the use of our automated tools.

Additionally, you will provide financial operations training and drive user experience improvements, adoption of processes, and FinOps education.

How a Cloud Cost Analyst / FinOps Analyst will Make an Impact:

  • Collaborate with architects and clients to establish cloud economics tools and platforms based on Federal and Industry Cloud FinOps best practices.

  • Develop agency and program-specific framework for FinOps principals, personas (roles), domains (areas of focus) and roadmap for Cloud FinOps to provide financial recommendations for cloud usage.

  • Create and present financial models and reports.

  • Continuously monitor cost of services and perform Total Cost of Ownership studies.

  • Lead technical and financial analysis to help Business and Product Owners determine the impact of cloud hosting by identifying cost savings design options and usage trends that impact projected spending.

  • Maintain current knowledge of relevant AWS optimization techniques, best practices, policies, and procedures to share in meetings with NIAID leadership, product teams, and infrastructure engineers.

  • Help develop the billing and analytics engines of the centralized decision-making portal.

  • Create and present financial models and reports.

What You’ll Need to Succeed:

Requirements:

  • Bachelors and minimum five years of related experience

  • Minimum of five years of experience with Cloud Systems (AWS).

  • Minimum of three years of Cloud Financial/Economics experience.

  • Minimum of five years of experience working with senior business and product owners to develop business cases, perform value and TCO analysis, and identify and implement cost optimization techniques for cloud infrastructure and applications.

  • Experience in developing and presenting reports that quantify the cost benefits of different design options for running applications in cloud.

  • Experience using Cloud native optimization tools, such as AWS Cost Explorer.

  • Must be able to obtain NIH Public Trust

Desired Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong organizational skills

  • Good interpersonal skills

  • Must be able to effectively communicate and be able to convey cloud technologies and solutions to customer personnel.

  • Knowledge of FinOps tools such as Apptio, CloudZero, or CloudCheckr.

  • Experience in building and operating financial control and analysis systems such as cloud cost analysis and chargeback models.

  • Experience working with stakeholders and development teams.

The likely salary range for this position is $102,000 - $138,000. This is not, however, a guarantee of compensation or salary. Rather, salary will be set based on experience, geographic location and possibly contractual requirements and could fall outside of this range.
