Interior Alaska Center for Non-Violent Living Shelter Advocate Overnights/Evenings (F/T) in Fairbanks, Alaska

Essential Functions *Advocacy *

  • Engage in and role model direct conflict resolution and mediation

``` - Maintain Confidentiality in accordance with Alaska Statute 18.66.200 - Maintain a working knowledge of Federal and State laws that affect victims of domestic violence and sexual assault - Implement policies, protocols and services designed to provide advocacy and support to victims who are or have experienced domestic violence and/or sexual assault or individuals who are impacted by domestic violence and/or sexual assault - Provide support services to victims and other individuals impacted by domestic violence, and sexual assault who are residing in emergency shelter, calling on the phone, a non-residential walk in, or a partner or prior victim of a man in batterers intervention Support services include active listening, safety planning, case planning, information and referrals, and advocating with other community agencies - Provide advocacy to victims of sexual assault and domestic violence at the hospital as requested through law enforcement and forensic nursing - Provide case management to long-term residents and participants in transitional housing - Facilitate or co-facilitate groups as needed - Provide back-up as necessary for court advocacy when legal advocate is unable to attend - Be a referral source to the ANDVSA Legal Advocacy Project, ALSC, and IACs legal program - Maintain accurate client records including statistical records, file management, and summary of contacts according to IAC confidentiality policies and program procedures

*Residential Shelter Management *

  • Implement procedures to ensure the safety of the building
  • Communicate Maintenance Requests to the appropriate individual(s)
  • Address housing issues that require de-escalation and/or mediation
  • Coordinate house meeting; ensuring all safety and security procedures are discussed
  • Perform room checks
  • Cleaning of direct work space and shelter space as needed
  • Other Duties as assigned by the Direct Services Manager
