GVEA is an electric cooperative which maintains 3,292 miles of transmission and distribution lines, 40 substations, and 9 generating facilities. Our system is interconnected with Fort Wainwright, Eielson AFB, Fort Greely, the University of Alaska-Fairbanks, and all of the electric utilities in the Alaska Railbelt, extending from Homer to Fairbanks. As a full-time Safety Specialist at Golden Valley Electric Association, you will be instrumental in upholding safety standards throughout our operations. This role encompasses an active and multifaceted approach to safety responsibilities, where you will blend cultural, technical, and administrative efforts to promote a robust safety culture across GVEA. You will accurately retain and file crucial information to ensure regulatory compliance, while also supporting customer service and management needs.
Additionally, you'll have the opportunity to develop engaging safety training materials and curriculum, fostering continuous learning. Conducting preliminary incident investigations and analyses, you will play a key role in understanding and mitigating risks, thereby contributing to the overall safety and well-being of our workforce. What you need to be successful
To excel as a Safety Specialist at Golden Valley Electric Association, candidates should possess a solid educational foundation, ideally with an Associate degree in Occupational Safety and Health, Science, or Engineering. Alternatively, a minimum of three years of exclusive safety experience in an industrial environment may be accepted in lieu of formal education. A valid Alaska driver's license is essential for this role, along with at least eight years of relevant experience in an industrial work setting. Successful candidates will demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of safety protocols and regulations. Proficiency in Microsoft Office desktop programs is crucial, ensuring effective documentation and communication.
Additionally, strong analytical and problem-solving skills will be vital for conducting incident investigations and developing impactful training materials. A proactive approach to safety, combined with effective collaboration and interpersonal skills, will further enhance your success within our energetic and mission-focused team in Fairbanks.
Knowledge and skills required for the position are:
- Associate degree in Occupational Safety and Health, Science or Engineering required.
