Job Description

Medical Technologist (Multiple Positions) (Cambridge Public Health Commission d/b/a Cambridge Health Alliance; Everett, Massachusetts): The Medical Technologist will perform and report laboratory tests for diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of disease in a manner that allows for the promotion of the efficient operation of the Laboratory and effective patient care. The Medical Technologist will demonstrate a thorough understanding of quality control protocol, good organizational skills, and ability to multi-task. Specific responsibilities of the Medical Technologist include: Performing phlebotomy on both adult and pediatric patients; Performing and evaluating quality control and participating in proficiency testing; Performing proficiency testing and internal quality control checks; Performing testing in chemistry, coagulation, hematology, limited microbiology, transfusion services, and urinalysis; Troubleshooting and resolving QC failures and instrument failures; Maintaining quality control records; Performing instrument maintenance procedures; Performing both STAT and Routine testing in an accurate and timely manner; Receiving and processing a variety of laboratory specimens and utilizing the Meditech computer system for data entry; Utilizing middleware software in the evaluation of results and applying middleware rules in the reporting of results; Assisting the supervisor in the development of new method evaluations, doing statistical analyses and evaluating cost feasibility as requested; Assisting the supervisor in the preparation for accreditation inspections and writing technical manuals as needed in accordance with established technical guidelines; Assisting the supervisor in the daily review of Master Logs as requested; Working with fellow staff members to analyze workflow processes and conduct QI audits; Training new employees in department procedures and policies; Participating in committees/task force team meetings as well as department meetings; Managing reagents and supply inventory; Working off shifts and weekends as required; assuming on-call responsibilities as required.

Minimum requirements: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent degree in Medical Laboratory Science, Medical Technology, or related.

Must have: Must meet current CLIA ’88 regulations for high complexity testing and general supervision; MLS/MT Certification from ASCP or NCA or equivalent certification; proven ability to evaluate and process information rapidly and make decisions; proven ability to perform phlebotomy; must be multi-task oriented and have good organizational abilities; proven ability to manage time effectively and prioritize responsibilities as needed.
