The Opportunity:
As a Mgr., Manufacturing Ops, you will be responsible for developing cost models and managing technical projects aimed at product and process problem-solving and/or improvements, cost reduction, and profitability improvement. You will provide technical assistance to the operating departments to help them achieve the mill\u2019s goals and objectives while driving a continuous process of improvement.
How you will impact Smurfit WestRock:
Determine and implement process changes and/or trials to improve operating efficiency and performance and minimize variation.
Partner with Operations, Maintenance/Reliability, and Process Control Engineers to understand all processes and how teams and individuals are involved and impacted at each step.
Drive continuous process improvement within an operating area through the coordination and management of raw materials and other process trials.
Serve as the owner and subject matter expert for Process Book (the mill\u2019s software to view Distributed Control System equipment), ensuring that all data and documentation is accurate and up to date.
Collaborate with Procurement, Finance, and the MBB to ensure the accuracy of price models used to forecast spend.
Understanding of financial models used to support project selection and track P/L improvements.
Track and analyze data related to any trials, changes and continual production information to inform recommendations and decisions.
Gather and cleanse production and process data and perform statistical/analytical tests to uncover important variables and their impacts.
Perform daily troubleshooting of the processes.
Provide coaching and mentoring to peers in technical subject areas including mill processes, computer software, and systems.
Support teams of mill employees and Six Sigma trainees in their Performance Excellence projects.
Regularly communicate process-related data to operations and management in a readily consumable way.
Responsible for conducting business with integrity and respect, being accountable, and actively pursuing excellence to help achieve Smurfit Westrock\u2019s Path to One goals.
What you need to succeed:
Bachelor\u2019s degree in science, engineering, or technology field
Prefer 7+ yrs. Experience in manufacturing environment in engineering, process improvement, or related technical capacity. A minimum of 5 + yrs paper or similar industry experience strongly preferred.
Understanding of Lean Six Sigma tools with examples of methodology applied.
Understanding of one or more departmental areas of a paper mill (power, pulp, or paper).
Experience with plant information systems and Minitab.
Strong problem solving and process analysis skills to evaluate data and make decisions to drive process improvements.
Possess effective communication skills to clearly convey process related data to operations and management in a readily consumable way.
Demonstrated ability to execute projects using team-based and data-based approach.
Proven track record of leadership and collaboration within cross functional teams.
VBA and PI training is preferred.
Have the desire and potential to advance within the organization in 3 to 5 years.
