Eng II, Process Eng (PSM)
Reporting relationship/primary responsibility: The Eng II, Process Eng (PSM) reports directly to the Fiber Department Manager. Responsible and accountable for optimizing and improving fiber line operation and supporting fiber line day-to-day activities, safety, environmental and Management Operating System.
Primary job duties
General
Supports department training as related to process trials.
Supports effort for management operating system, MOS in terms of establishing process operating guidelines.
Assist and lead with daily troubleshooting issues and operating problems.
Reviews operational data and offers input for improvement.
Participate and lead OB teams to further enhance department and mill.
Process Safety Management.
Supervise engineering students (Summer interns and/or Co-Op students.
Investigate, design, organize, and initiate process trials intended to improve long term operation of fiber line.
Abide by Evadale Mill current Union-Management labor agreements.
Safety
Understands and enforces mill safety policies and procedures. Ensures that all employees are aware of and adhere to safety policies and procedures.
Ensures timely completion of incident investigations as needed.
Actively promotes and participates in Mill\u2019s safety programs/processes.
Conducts routine safety audits of employees to ensure compliance and give proper feedback.
Ensures that all department personnel are aware of and adhere to safety policies and procedures.
Understands PSM safety requirements.
Provides departmental guidance to meet or exceed PSM safety requirements.
Quality
Understands his/her role within the Smurfit WestRock organization to further enhance continued improvement within the fiber line department.
Lead and assist with identification of problems and what is needed to correct.
Production/Mill Reliability
Troubleshoot and problem solves process issues that arise.
Promote teamwork and credibility with other departments within the mill.
Understands the 14 elements of the PSM program and how they apply to the department.
Manages "Management of Change" (MOC) procedures for the PSM covered process.
Provide technical guidance on PSM covered issues.
Participates in PSM audits locally and other locations as required.
Responsible for tracking the completion of corrective actions and responses to PSM audit items.
Responsible for reporting progress on PSM audit items to mill leadership and corporation.
Coordinates PSM audits for the Evadale mill.
Interfaces with Engineering and Maintenance to meet PSM compliance requirements.
Cost
Understand key drivers to cost in department.
Take recommendations from various team members to reduce cost and waste.
Environmental
Understand and abide by environmental policies established by Smurfit WestRock, the state of Texas, and Federal environmental laws.
Complete monthly Turpentine Canister checks (PSM).
Report any environmental excursions.
Continue to seek out ways further the reduction of water usage in the Fiberline.
Promote Root Cause Analysis on any environmental event; examples: NCG vent or sewer overflow.
What you will need to succeed:
College degree or minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience in engineering, maintenance, or chemical field.
Understanding of the Process Safety Management 14 elements.
Understanding of the PSM covered process at the Evadale mill.
Basic understanding of the Fiberline processes and chemistry involved.
General understanding of mill wide operations.
Must be able to communicate clearly and effectively with all levels of the organization.
Basic proficiency with Microsoft applications, SAP, and PI system.
Must be available outside of normal business hours if mill issues arise.
Participate in Mill\u2019s rotating call duty assignments.
